    Holy Crap! Armed robbery a few blocks from my house!

    I live in a small town. Not a lot of action going on here. I just got home from going to the store and on my way there the normal road I take was closed off by the police. On the way home it still is. As I walked in the door I got a call from a friend of mine who is a cop here in town asking if I will drive to his house and let his daughter in the house (she was taking the bus home from school) because she forgot her key and he got called into work.

    I asked him what was up and he tells me that a guy robbed the pharmacy down the street from my house at gunpoint so he could get some Oxycontin. The police chased him into a dead end street where there was a standoff. After about two hours of the standoff the guy shot himself.

    Pretty wild. This will be the talk of the town for the next six months.

      i remember when the bank behind my house was robbed cops with their dogs going through my yard and my neighbors...actually had more then once i was in another house when i was outside with my dog and the police came through my yard telling me to go in side....i was like wtf this is my yard...anyway crazy shit man

          Must have had a silent alarm or somehow he got the cops on his ass.

          Wouldn't it be easier and a better bet to just rob a bank. Armed robbery for a bottle of pills? These pharmacist guys are so wacky who nows how they would react. lol

          Say something like, "ok sonny hold on I have to count you out a bottles worth" or something wack while the assistant hits the secret alarm.

          I take it the guy killed himself which is even a bigger story for a small town than the armed robbery.

              The armed robbery is a huge thing for here. There just isn't much in the way of violent crime here other than some domestic battery stuff and drunks fighting at the bar. We actually get a few suicides a year here. Both combined is a big story. Next week when the local paper comes out and it is on the front page it will be the main topic of conversation in town for days.

                  In which case it would be news for years.

                      True. They haven't released the name of the guy yet. I'm assuming it is because he probably has a family they want to notify first.

                      I do have to say the town kind of freaked out, but I guess reacted pretty fast. The drug store is about 4 blocks south of a middle school and I guess the guy drove off in that direction. They had the school on lock-down in a matter of minutes. Probably scared the hell out of some of the kids.

                      I'm not sure if the guy is from around here. As he fled he turned down a dead end street. Maybe he is from here and was just freaking out as he ran, but there were a lot of other roads he could have taken and he picked the one that is a dead end.

                      Of course there is always the option that he knew he was going to kill himself and was just trying to find a good place to do it. He parked right next to an open field where there are no houses or anything.

                                          Reminds me of when the James Gang rode into Northfield, Minn or The Dalton Gang rode into Coffeeville, Kansas.

                                          It isn't pulling the job it's getting away.

                                          Is there any worse nightmare than running thru a neighborhood (if you are even in shape) with a bottle of stolen (via Armed Robbery) OxyContin with the cops on your ass. These foot chases never last long. The cops are ALWAYS in better shape.
