we had that mob problem in the US ...they were smuggling dollars to italy.

You guys need an Elliot Ness

rvincent 05-13-2010 11:39 AM

500 euros is about 700USD... you don't want to get a fake one...
In practice most shops in the euro zone don't want them... actually in France (and many more countries I'm sure), you'll have a hard time paying with notes of 100, 200 and 500 euros.

People who value their privacy? Not only criminals...

Konkan 05-13-2010 01:08 PM

It makes sense for the big players. More and more often in Europe the citizens are using credit cards, avoiding to carry cash in the pockets. Just small bills 10, 20 50 euros. Bigger transactions are done by the banks.

People should be free to spend or save money in whatever form they desire.

no one is stopping them from spending them (although i can't imagine many shops etc would have even seen a 500 euro note beofre let alone accept one) or saving them in the UK, you just won't be able to buy them from burea de change's and banks. bear in mind also that the uk's currency is sterling not euro's, although some places accept them.

Shops don't want Euros here anyway and I've always had a problem spending £50 notes so something that's worth about £425 is going to be very hard to get a shop to accept anyway.
