I think it's cool how music can become time-locked

Like, for example, the music you hear while on a great vacation gets time-locked to that situation. Then every time you hear one of them, it brings back all the great memories from the event.

Some of the best money I ever spent was not on business, but on going places and creating those memories that last forever. (or at least as long as my shitty memory will hold them). I find that music is the best way to cement a point in time. Even more than photos.

But I'm kinda strange any way.

I don't think it's just music, it's whatever might be important to you. In your case, music. For many people, food. For others, smells. Maybe a ride in a certain kind of car. A particular shirt.

For me it's probably food. When I think of certain trips/vacations the first thing that pops into my head is a particular food that I really enjoyed. Or if I think of a particular food, I remember when I first had it.

Maybe there is even more value in making music yourself about something.

Yeah, I do that too. But the only value in it is monetary because the only "situation" it's ever in is sitting here in my studio. Not on my list of "fun memories".

Yeah it is. I believe they've studied senses linked to memory, and smell tops the list.

Fresh cut grass always reminds me of living across from the ball park in south jersey. I've smelled it a million more times in many more places, but it's hooked into that place and time for me.

Every once in a while I get a smell of the night air and it takes me back in time as well.

Smells are incredible how powerful they are - a few months ago while i was falling asleep i smelled something and it was very familiar so i tried to identify it, i figured out what it was and was amazed because it was so obscure. So I started mentally running through a list of things, people, places in my mind seeing if I could 'smell' them and damn it's fascinating how the scent of EVERYTHING you've ever experienced is sitting there and stored in your brain.

Yeah, like that. I have some tunes on here today that are putting me right back at the beach party in Cabo. Naked drunk chicks running around in the sand.... amazing that a few songs remind me of the entire trip... lol

yeah, that is mind blowing.
I love how I have some "smell memories" that always bring me back to my childhood... just amazing how our brain works
