Once again, asshole "hockey fans" make Montreal look like shit.
Mtl police regain control after clashes with youths following Habs win:
http://sports.sympatico.ca/Home/Cont...=abc&date=True MONTREAL - Montreal police regained control of the downtown core early Thursday after firing tear gas at hundreds of bottle-tossing youths, many of whom looted businesses following a stunning playoff victory by the Canadiens. The vandalism occurred after the area crammed with tens of thousands of jubilant hockey fans had mostly emptied out following the Habs' Game 7 win over the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Looters wrapped their faces in garments ? in some cases the ones they'd stolen ? and dashed into a liquor store. With their identities concealed, they leaped through the smashed front window and emerged moments later with their arms full. One man warned his lady friend, as they dashed away, to be careful with the loot. "Hide the bottle," he snapped. "The police." He was referring to the line of officers who watched impassively from the closest street corner. Their reinforcements were on the way. Rows of black-clad riot cops charged in from the peripheries, rattling their shields as a warning to the crowd. That's when they began blasting tear-gas canisters into the unruly mob. As people coughed and scurried away, they followed; the slowest members of the crowd were jammed repeatedly in the ribs to prod them along. One man complained he'd had a tooth broken. Stragglers who paused and tried to pleacefully explain why they needed to be there received the same reaction: a few swift, painful jabs in the torso. Police said about 25 people were arrested. Two officers suffered minor injuries. The evening began as an eardrum-rattling eruption of joy that crested into a sea of red, white and blue in the hockey-mad city. Thousands of ecstatic Canadiens fans streamed into the streets to celebrate the team's elimination of the defending champion Penguins. Fireworks erupted over Ste-Catherine Street as people crowd-surfed and held aloft trinkets including Stanley Cups and, in one case, a stuffed penguin. Ronnie Cukier went downtown with his daughter and her friends because he wanted them to experience a true Montreal hockey celebration ? a rarity since the Habs delivered their last championship in 1993. "We've been waiting for this Cup for a long time," Cukier said. "I've seen a few already. But let the kids see a few of them. Now's our time. This is our year to win the Cup." Considering the amount of people in the downtown core there wasn't much looting and violence. You have a select few that use this as an excuse to steal stuff, unfortunately there are always a few dicks that tarnish the city's image.
The cops should have stood 5 deep in front of the SAQ and started beating each person as they tried to run our with their night sticks, those who run get hit, those that dont get arrested. |
what..do they think they are LA?
|
who cares
|
those aren't even hockey fans.. they are just thugs who are taking advantage of being in a crowd and using it as an excuse to steal shit...
fucking embarrassing is what they are. |

it's because riot control does not understand anything but being assholes.
What generally happens is you have a large group of people, having fun , cops in riot gear show up , look mad , have weapons and start acting aggresively, the crowd responds the same way because of numbers and voila you have a riot. People in montreal arent any different than people in detroit or miami , the difference is how the police respond/react , because the crowd doesn't know each other and there is never a "plan", so unless montreal people are inherently bad or telepathic the dfference is the police. |
that sucks..

opportunists.

Montreal police assistant director Sylvain Brouillette congratulated the vast majority of Canadiens fans, estimated at 50,000, who poured downtown last night to watch Game 7 on giant screens at the Bell Centre or in local bars and to celebrate their team's success. "We had huge crowds, and the great majority of people co-operated with us," he said Thursday morning at a news conference outside Foot Locker, one of three vandalized stores near Ste. Catherine and Drummond St. "It was only about 500 out of 50,000 who took part in criminal acts." Once the vandalism and smash-and-grabs began, the Montreal police riot squad was called in and the street was cleared within 30 minutes, Brouillette said. http://www.montrealgazette.com/Polic...322/story.html |
I was there yesterday. On multiple occasions cops used brutality for no valid reason. I got pushed in a corner by a bunch of thug cops that took the center of the street and were pushing everyone on the side.

sooo.. no close personal friend was not caught and arrested for jumping on a police car again???

That is unfortunate. It's all about the property ownership rights - it really is.

Is it the same group of assholes showing up every time? I doubt it. Is it always because the cops show up in riot gear? No, that's a dumb assumption. They know by now that rioting is going to take place whether they're there or not. They're there to keep things in order, not bother the actual hockey fans, but once any damage/thieving starts happening they are going to move in and get physical in order to stop it. If you're just a hockey fan out trying to celebrate and you see that kind of shit going on you best get yourself far away from it fast. Cops can't tell if you're legit or one of the assholes who is suddenly pretending to "blend in" with the legit fans. Once violence breaks out there's not time to decide who "looks okay", if you're near the shit you risk getting injured. Getting only shoved around a little is getting off lucky. I can think of several cities whose pro teams won championships and there were no riot police needed, just celebration. Was there looting and pillaging and tear gas in Pittsburgh last year? How about in Tampa when the Lightning won it a few years back? Edmonton, during the Gretzky years when they won it like 4 times in a row? I don't remember so much as a store window being spit on. I have no idea why it continues to happen over and over in Montreal, all of it mosly centered around hockey, spanning so many decades. There seems to be a lot of mindless people there, passing their mindless ways down to their kids I guess. If the Habs happen to win Lord Stanley I'm sure St. Catherine's St. will become a war zone once again. Maybe they SHOULD try it Smokey's way and not send any cops at all and see what happens. :upsidedow:Oh crap:error |
If I had a shop down there I would be sorely tempted to start shooting anyone that smashed in my windows and started looting....
. |
|
Damn,
i didn't know there are that many blacks up there. |
