Couple Arrested for asking directions

Baltimore City police arrested a Virginia couple over the weekend after they asked an officer for directions.

WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins said Joshua Kelly and Llara Brook, of Chantilly, Va., got lost leaving an Orioles game on Saturday. Collins reported a city officer arrested them for trespassing on a public street while they were asking for directions .

"In jail for eight hours -- sleeping on a concrete floor next to a toilet," Kelly said.

"It was a nightmare," Brook said. "I was in there thinking I was just dreaming and waiting to wake up."

Collins reported it was a nightmare ending to a nearly perfect day. He said the couple went to a company picnic and watched the Orioles beat Kansas City. It was their first trip to Camden Yards and asked two people for directions to Interstate 95 South when they left.

Collins said somehow they ended up in the Cherry Hill section of south Baltimore. Hopelessly lost, relief melted away concerns after they spotted a police vehicle.

"I said, 'Thank goodness, could you please get us to 95?" Kelly said.

"The first thing that she said to us was no -- you just ran that stop sign, pull over," Brook said. "It wasn't a big deal. We'll pay the stop sign violation, but can we have directions?"

"What she said was 'You found your own way in here, you can find your own way out.'" Kelly said.

Collins said the couple spotted another police vehicle and flagged that officer down for directions. But Officer Natalie Preston, a six-year veteran of the force, intervened.

"That really threw us for a loop when she stepped in between our cars," Kelly said. "(She) said my partner is not going to step in front of me and tell you directions if I'm not."

Collins reported the circumstances got worse. Kelly pulled 40 feet forward parking next to a curb and put his flashers on while Brook was on the phone to her father hoping he could help her with directions. Both her parents are police officers in the Harrisburg, Pa., area.

"(Brook's father) was in the middle of giving us directions when the officer screeched up behind us and got out of the car and asked me to step out. I obeyed," Kelly said. "I obeyed everything -- stepped out of the car, put my hands behind my back, and the next thing I know, I was getting arrested for trespassing."

"By this time, I was completely in tears," Brook said. "I said, 'Ma'am, you know, we just need your help. We are not trying to cause you any trouble. I'm not leaving him here.' What she did was walk over to my side of the car and said, 'Ok, we are taking you downtown, too.'"

Collins said the couple was released from jail without being charged with anything. Brook is now concerned the arrest may complicate a criminal background check she's going through in her job as a child care worker.

Collins said police left Kelly's car unlocked and the windows down at the impound lot. He reported a cell phone charger, pair of sunglasses and 20 CDs were stolen.

Baltimore City police said they are looking into the incident

there is no way a cop can take time away from their busy schedule writing tickets to the working man coming home and responding to neighbors complaining about teenagers with basketball hoops on the sidewalk. NO WAY!

Watched the video: The officer arrested them for their own safety, good job. Those 2 clowns were going to be dead meat.

We need to get a few of those Arizona "illegal immigrants" up there to Virginia asap, they would have known how to handle that fucking cop...BANG BANG!

In all seriousness...I predict we're gonna start seeing a lot more cops getting hurt in the near future. For one thing, cities are desperate for money now and are putting the cops out in force pulling over soccer mom's for doing 5 miles over the speed limit.

Unfortunately a lot of folks have lost their jobs, are struggling to keep their homes, etc. And when they get pulled over and given a ticket it's just a way to get the insurance company to jack up their rates.

People in this part of the country are committing suicide in record numbers over the economy this past year. If the cops don't lay the fuck off of people that's gonna start turning into a nasty scene for them. The last thing a despondent and desperate person trying to keep things going needs is to have a cop pull them over and fuck them over too.

I know that the only person I FEAR on the road are the cops. You never know what those crazy motherfuckers will do to you depending on their mood swings that day. And the courts have pretty much given them God-like powers on the street. Of course you can beat them in court. But when you are being pulled over, they can and will do any goddamn thing they want to you at that moment.

Just another thing that our founding fathers never intended.

everyone should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon.. it would be some wild shit with a lot of violence for the first few years, but after that people would show each other a lot more respect.... :2 cents:

That pretty much happens the majority of the time. They can shoot you down in cold blood and they don't go to jail, and most times don't even lose their freakin' job. It's disgraceful.

No thanks. I have two cousins and a brother who are cops. And I have a couple of very good friends who are cops as well. They tell me the shit they do to people for fun.

Or as my cousin told me: "We LIVE for somebody to mouth off to us"

Hell, I suppose if I had a badge and a gun and could pretty much make people do whatever I said and if they questioned me I could get away with arresting them and making them wish they'd never seen me...well, I'd probably do it too. Just human nature to get into a power trip.

But since I'm not a cop...it pisses me off that they pull that shit on people. I mean...if they pull you over and you simply ask nicely "Why did you pull me over?" They won't give you an answer. But if they ask you a question and you don't answer? OH HELL NO.

My first husband once got picked up in Alabama for going for a walk at night. The cop ended up just taking him back to his hotel room in the end but gave him a warning based on 'people don't walk here'. He just was sick of being in his room and didn't have a car.

Yup, some cops are unbelievable stupid.
