So looks like I'll be delivering truck load of hair tomorrow for oil spill cleanup

I started contacting people at hair salons and asking them to collect the hair instead of throwing it away, and I got 4 garbage bags so far. Ill be making my first delivery in the morning. I volunteered to drive it.

Who wouldve thought hair would help clean up massive oil spill? But if I can do anything to help I will.

True dat.

TurboAngel 05-05-2010 03:54 PM

That's kinda wild how they could use hair for the cleanup. Does it absorbs the oil?

96ukssob 05-05-2010 03:55 PM

for serious?

yes, they are stuffing hair in pantyhose and using it to absorb oil. Hair collects oil.

i cant go clean animals etc... so I gotta do what i can, its so heartbreaking reading these stories that sitting by and watching is way more difficult than just getting involved. The way I see it, if i didnt pick up the phone and do this, thatd be a truck load less of hair theyll have...

Screwed Up 05-05-2010 04:05 PM

I didn't know they could use hair. Then googled it and you're right.

Very nice of you. Thumbs up.

They should force the higher ups at BP to be shaven bald...

Fletch XXX 05-05-2010 04:09 PM

This is the very least I can do, seriously... I feel awful for not doing more. I have friends coming from Florida., Alabama, and new York to clean animals, whatever they can etc,... I got friends who havent worked a single day since this happened because the boats they work on have stopped running until this clears, it is affecting many people I know to the piint their pay checks are going to go bye bye for now, its very sad.

I was growing my hair out, but im about to shave it and just chip in my hair too.

Put a couple rounds through it for good measure.

Loch 05-05-2010 04:10 PM

Anything anyone can do to help this aweful situation

Kudos for taking action! Where do you send it? I am donating to Dawn for the clean up of wildlife, the closest shore bird rescue center is 2 hours away so its the only thing I could think of doing.

ProG 05-05-2010 04:25 PM

You need to setup a head shaving booth at the mall. Shave your head for a good cause ;)

No they have not, and theyve raised the estimated barrels a day from 5,000 to 60,000 a day pouring into ocean.

seeric 05-05-2010 04:57 PM

oh jesus, thats fucking terrible. i was watching something about trying to set off explosives to cap the well. problem was, they said it could backfire and actually make the hole bigger. ugggh.

BV 05-05-2010 05:01 PM

Fletch, how do you get hooked up with cleaning some animals? link?

Fletch XXX 05-05-2010 05:05 PM

IM not sure how directly here is a link one of my friends posted on FB yesterday looking for volunteers it has links to tons of orgs - I heard you gotta go take a quick class and be taught how first etc... you should if you can handle the emotional aspects man, I cannot.
