Is Your Money Bad Too?
 

In the past week I hired 3 people online to do different work for me, a designer a application developer and a DBA expert for a new project.

So before I hired them I spoke in detail with them over AIM and ICQ and they always got back to me right away, and they where always online.

So I send them all money to start working and here is where the bad money comes in.

The designer is all of a sudden not online for 2 days and does not answer email, so I send him an email saying if he does not get back within 5 hours I?ll make sure to contact PayPal.

He gets back to me right away saying there was a death in his family he is so sorry blah blah blah?

The application developer all of a sudden is not at his computer and I get a response from someone when I ICQ but the person says it?s his girlfriend and he?s out on an emergency his sister was in a bad accident. (I knew it?s really him)

So I said I know it?s you and im calling elance right now and showing them the log etc. All of a sudden just as I said that the so-called girlfriend says ?OMG he just walked in, hes real honest, blah blah?

The DBA expert was a total bullshitter once he got the money, I had him give it back and I hired a local guy.

Look on the bright side, maybe you've burned off enough flake bad karma in one shot to be in the clear for '03.

Yep. This is the major reason I work alone. I can't trust anyone not to get drunk or dusted as soon as they get $50.

Never pay until the work is done. Especially on the net.

A healthy dose of cynicism is a good thing when dealing with people over the net. Even though everyone you know may be honest and trustworthy, it's easy for a slickster to take you for a ride.

See it the other way around some time, I had to chase people for designs I did after I delivered for months. That is one of the main reasons I nowadays mostly ask half before and half after, until I know I can trust the one I work with.

Anyway it's always fucked when you are fucked :1orglaugh

I have been jerked around for months and I finanally turned to someone well known in the biz and fuck Elance, they took my $25.00 signup fee and then said, don't contact us anymore, we don't do projects for pornographers and they haven't refunded my money. I tried Scriptlance.com, burned and burned and burned. Tried an independant and he never did the work, jerked me around for 3 months. And kept saying next week, next week and so on.

I wish I had the skill to do it myself.....

Site has been in a shitty state for sometime, but it will relaunch this week. "Finally":)

agreed Q..... I'm sending a few of my accounts over to a collection agency in about a week. Tired of chasing them.

maybe i would make more starting a collection agency for porn sites than i would building sites :winkwink:
