There is a downside too. There will be remote censorship: the mechanisms designed to delete pirated music under remote control may be used to delete documents that a court (or a software company) has decided are offensive - this could be anything from pornography to writings that criticise political leaders. Software companies can also make it harder for you to switch to their competitors' products; for example, Word could encrypt all your documents using keys that only Microsoft products have access to; this would mean that you could only read them using Microsoft products, not with any competing word processor

This won't happen. Too many people would abandon the products from the companies using such systems.

The day this crap comes out there will be a crack to get around it. Always is.

I'm not a hacker but if those Fritz chips are integrated inteh CPU directly I think it's going to be very hard to make a work around. I think most people are already afraid of upgrading firmware on certain hardware parts but the CPU is a complete other level...

Well, WINDOWS XP works just fine for me, it doesn't crash and everything works. I don't see the need to upgrade to another super copyright protected version of windows for a long long time. Unless something special comes out that I really want, but I just can't see that happening.

And yeah as soon as XP was out there was a cracked version available without the activation bullshit. They just haven't been able to make something unhackable for a long time.

I bet the music industry is going to pay Microsoft a shitload if they can do this for them.
