The secret about bannerless freehosts ?

I don't understand. How can those bannerless free hosts offer free hosting services without displaying their own banner(s)?
What's the (hidden) secret?

XxXotic 12-29-2002 10:36 AM

You get what you pay for..if your serious about the biz don't use em.

JamesK 12-29-2002 11:10 AM

404 traffic (which is 50%)

vglover 12-29-2002 11:23 AM

404-errors is what you get when the URL isn't correct. So if you're a good webmasters and you've checked your links, you won't get an error and a redirection. Is it simple like that or am I too optimistic?

Hehe... funny.
Instead, think of a random redirection to 404 pages of about 10% of your traffic.

Invisible pop-ups.

Some sponsors have bannerless freehosting, you just have to promote their program to use it (and they don't redirect).

hahmike 12-29-2002 11:36 AM

you don't need to be bannerless to redirect traffic

i see that porn city is now doing it :1orglaugh

i wonder by which miracle free hosts are still accepted by tgps....
all they do is use force 404 to steal 10%+ of your traffic and redirect foreign traffic to dialers....
freehosts suck , don't use them.

i tripled my income when i changed my galleries from free to paid host......1 posting pays for the bandwith if you have the right sponsor

MonkeyMan 12-29-2002 11:45 AM

The free host I just started is not blacklisted and will not become blacklisted becasue it is not automated. Poeple submit the galleries to me and I put them up. Therefore.... no one can cheat tgps. I resent comments about how EVERYONE skims and cheats their users. This is SIMPLY NOT TRUE.

Do you think using only one sponsor is a bad Idea??? Could I make any money on just 404 if I allow users to use any sponsor???

Some do various methods. Randomly changing your banner codes to theirs, 404 traffic, random popups, redirecting your search engine traffic. 1:10 times they hit the "404" page, etc.

i wish this made sense to me, i have both paid and free host and they both pull the same. I guess it would apply if the free host was shitty or slow.

I use a freehost that is not exactly free, they get $5 per sale you make. and they let you control 404 traffic.

They make money because you need to signup for the sponsor using their refer code, so they get $200-$400 per sponsor once you make a few sales (in some cases)

They let you bring your own domain, or they give you a free one ... they have 9 to choose from and i havent seen them blacklisted yet.

the link for them is in my sig if you like it.

lil2rich4u2 12-29-2002 12:52 PM

good question though ... i always thought the same thing

Mark 12-29-2002 12:55 PM

As someone said already not all freehosts steal traffic or screw their webmasters.. we also have a bannerless freehost and we make our money on sales on our affiliate program.. in other words webmasters using the freehost must promote only our programs.

slackor 12-29-2002 01:28 PM

some do it just to attract users then they switch to banners. It's a good way to get a big user base very fast.

This is what we do...... as well as a few other sponsors. If you make money then we make money. And we don't redirect anything and have a clean 404..... no headers and no footers. You just have to use our program.

There are a few sponsors that do this. It seems to work for everyone concerned. If you get listed and make sales, then we make money off of that as well...... so it works for everyone.

Hentai 12-29-2002 02:52 PM

Some free hosts just shut down once a certain amount of traffic is reached.
Then they just redirect everything to a paysite.

Cash 12-29-2002 02:56 PM

They promote their own sites, like topbucks, the first in my sig, and Erotism of Gamma

Simon-interaid 12-29-2002 02:57 PM

I heard bannerless freehosts make like 5% of the traffic get forwarded to their 404.
