CE certainly was one of the early ones; they've been around since 1996, at least (that's when I started selling traffic to Ron Levi).

BB boards might be considered some of the first since a few charged to get in and download adult pics, just a thought . . .

The BBS methods of accessing adult content did come first.

The oldest paysite might be "The Ranch and Cattle Bunkhouse" at bunkhouse.com ... created back in 1995 and operated as a BBS before that. No longer a paysite these days.

There may be others even older that I'm not remembering.

P.S. Our own original paysite was inside our 1stSmokeshop.com cigar emporium website back in 1996. That "XXX Smokeshop" adult section was rolled out onto several paysite domains a year later. There was a BBS we did that preceded the Smokeshop too.

Many BBS's back in the day had adult only sections.

I think I remember AftershockMedia saying he had users paying him with personal checks through the mail, then he'd activate their adult access. I may be misremembering who it was, but I think it was ASM.

Rusty and Edies back in the BBS days. They may not have been the first, but they were the biggest. If memory serves me right they had like 100+ phone lines on rotary system into system at a price of $29.95/month or $89.95/year or so with download limit of 5 megs a day I believe unless you uploaded which increased your download limit.

As all successful BBS had back then, their Warez section was their eventual achilles heel.

Jenniecam and WebSplash are 2 old ones that I remember.

My first was early '96, but it was through an AVS (Aadultcheck). It was not real easy to set up a paysite in 1995 that accepted credit cards, as there weren't many third party billers. You had to have your own account, gateway, and scripts.

My first true pay site was late '96, using Thunderbird (which I believe later became iBill). Payment was through 900 number billing. The two I remember, and tried to emulate, were wetlands.com and danni.com. Both of these predate carolcox.com, though she may have had a previous site under a different name.

Danni started in 1995. We (CarolCox the wildrose) started our pay site a year later.
IBill started in 1996 and CCBill started in 1998.
So I think in order to find the first site we'd need to find the first processor. Keep in mind real time processing wasn't around then.
