TECH EXPERTS - How can you track what a particular SITE / URL is doing to your system?
 

Is there a program out there where you can submit a link, and it simulates or tests in some way, what that link will do to your system? ie, drops in a cookie or 3, opens popup to xyz.com etc.

I have suspicions about an advertiser on one of my sites, who *might* be cookie stuffing or doing something dodgy, but I'm not technically cluey enough to know how / what he might be doing. I could clear all my cookies, click the link, and see I guess.

I don't want to know any of the technicalities of stuffing, I just want to clear this guy's name / prove either way.

Is there a better way to track exactly what the link / site you're visiting is doing / putting on your system?

If you want to see if he is stuffing you, switch out to a fresh IP, clear all cookies, and visit the image url directly a few times.

Thanks AJC, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do it that way. I wonder if there's much demand to get an emulator of some kind coded up?

most advanced stuffers log ip and put you on chill once the cookie has been dropped, they also have a tendency to rotate stuffs and not drop a cookie every single hit. just measures the developers of these stuffing platforms have implemented to try and avoid being caught. so if you want to catch them, you better look like a nice fresh new visitor when you go after them. the real tricky stuffers do their thing with flash, not images. building a paltform to hunt for stuffers wouldn't be too hard if you were a solid coder and knew what to look for.

So this guy goes into the Patent Office and tells the Patent Officer that he'd like to get a patent, for his new cookie. The Patent Officer looks at him and says "haha Sir, I have a hard time imagining you have anything new to bring the cookie industry that hasn't been thought of, but let's hear your idea"

The guy pulls out a Ziploc sealed baggie full of pink colored cookies, and tells the Patent Officer, that he has invented a cookie that tastes like pussy.

"Pussy!?" The Officer questions, "Let me try one of these 'coochie cookies'. And takes one into his hand and takes a nice bite out of one end of it"


"Bleh FUCK!, These cookies taste like SHIT" the Patent Officer exclaims.

"Oh, sorry about that" the man says,
" You've got that one upside down"
