Poison is translated to "gift" in German?
Is it because people give gifts that the receivers of the gifts don't need?
|
Gift in Danish is either married or poison.

I also heard a song with lyrics, "I want your disease."

Acually the old german word "gift" means the same as the english word "gift", but it could be used for a "positive gift" (=present) or a "negative gift" (=poison). In today's german it's only used as the word for poison and in some combined words that remain from the past (like "mitgift" = marriage portion). Today's german word for a present would be "Geschenk"
btw.... gfy now a dictionary too? ;) |
