Agreed.

Everyone I have known who's done something like that, including family members, has been burned. I have loaned money to friends, and also been burned. Even by life long friends.

The morale of the story is, do not do business with or loan money, to friends.
:disgust

You were asking for trouble. Never mix money with friends/family.

About 12 yrs ago I had a Chevy Astro Van, bought used, drove the hell out of it for 2 yrs and the motor blew. So my buddy hooks me up w/ his mechanic to do the rebuild, cool guy does great job. I drive it another yr, runs better than ever but I buy a new truck and so I don't really need the van but still have it..cut to 1 yr later and my same buddy is fixing up an S-10 P/U for his 16 yr old son to drive, but it needs a motor...happens to be the exact motor in my van, so my buddy offers to buy the van..cool its gone, he pulls the motor and puts it in the truck..all is well for about a yr...then I don't hear form the guy for an unusually long time so I call him up ...immediate attitude, so I say whats up?..he starts asking me questions about the motor, how often did I change the oil?..how many miles on it? etc.
Turns out his now 17 yr old son blew the 4.3 LTR V6 motor at the crest of a 6,000ft mountain pass while pulling a 16ft enclosed trailer filled with gear...and somehow it was my fault.

Haven't talked to him since...

Sounds like you are better off not talking to him.

Dappz 04-26-2010 02:28 AM

yes i agree to you, "NEVER SELL YOUR CAR TO A FRIEND" if you still want him/her to be your friend....

$5 submissions 04-26-2010 04:28 AM

Better yet, don't do anything dealing with MONEY with friends and relatives. Money just gets in the way.

The only exception: referrals or info sharing.

ottopottomouse 04-26-2010 04:31 AM

It's just as bad if you give something away to a friend too.

Bought myself some fancy alloys and new tyres years ago. One of my friends had the same car and wanted my old wheels+tyres as they were only part worn. As I was just going to leave them sat in the garage doing nothing I gave them to him.

For some reason I can't quite understand free wheels+tyres still wear out. Ungrateful pissing moaning cunt :disgust

and never do website for a friend ... i did two years back, friend went for his keywords to first place in every search engine, he his overloaded with work, still, but three months before he felt from first place to third ... now another friend asked him "who the hell is that teencat, he is friend? your site is third, what a fucking shit" ... and friend asked me "great work, now i am third, why?" ... all work was for free, now he is starting to build a house cause of the jobs he got from my site ... fuck them, assholes
