Did anyone ever try breathing oxygen?

Air has 21% oxygen.

Did anyone try to breathe 100% oxygen?

BIGTYMER 04-25-2010 07:03 PM

I've tried it. Its good stuff. They sell it in a can in Japan.

Yes, they sell it especially in highly polluted cities.

Vendzilla 04-25-2010 07:43 PM

do they still have O2 bars?
I remember tring that at a convention about 6 years ago

madawgz 04-26-2010 12:55 AM

I remember the oxygen bar fad too.

chupachups 04-26-2010 01:30 AM

Did it when I fainted on a flight, almost like a small high doing it. You feel very good afterwards.

quantum-x 04-26-2010 02:03 AM

Sure, you get a high, keep taking it and get brain damage.

John-ACWM 04-26-2010 02:12 AM

No but I'd try it :)

seeandsee 04-26-2010 02:25 AM

clean shit :)

greg80 04-26-2010 03:45 AM

Of course. I even breathed 160% oxygen (100% O2 at a 1,6bar pressure (6m under water), which makes it like breathing 160% oxygen). You can only do that for 15 minutes, than change to some other gas, like air for 5 minutes, or you will get central nurveous system poisoning.

I used to use 100% O2 for decompression in diving, now I use Nitrox 50 instead and switch to it on 21 meters while ascending. It's safer than pure O2.

Besides popular believe that breathing pure O2 makes you feel better, I do not think it makes any difference.

Nicky 04-26-2010 03:55 AM

Oxygen is in the air. In some Cities the air is polluted, I was in a City like that once.

$5 submissions 04-26-2010 04:00 AM

Great for adults? It causes blindness in infants. Anyway, anyone have any medical links that show ACTUAL physiological benefits?

candyflip 04-26-2010 06:32 AM

I went to a place maybe 10 years ago. It was cool, but I never went back.

I'm sure there's a portable home version of it now. That would actually be cool to have.

HeadPimp 04-26-2010 06:35 AM

Just because the air is polluted, doesn't mean that it has significantly less O2, just more other crap mixed in.

Slick 04-26-2010 06:47 AM

I've been tempted to try it a couple of times to see what it's like. There is at least one place I know of in the States that sells it in a can, I think it's called Big Ox.

ruff 04-26-2010 08:28 AM

You won't be able to tell any difference, it's all in your head. I'm a rebreather dive instructor, you can use oxygen in decompression. Use it under pressure and it can kill you. Pure oxygen for up to 48 hours will poison you. Oxygen of itself is considered a deadly gas. These oxygen bars, cans, and other bullshit is just a way to separate you from your money.

BestXXXPorn 04-26-2010 08:36 AM

It's wile the first time you try one of them, that's for sure.

fatfoo 04-26-2010 07:17 PM

I heard somewhere that if you breathe 5 times more oxygen in your life, you will shorten your life by 5 times.

Adam_M 04-26-2010 07:23 PM

its OK but I like nitrous better :)

Mr. Romance 04-26-2010 07:32 PM

Did a few oxygen bars and it was nice:)

Air contains 21% oxygen. When you breathe, your lungs only use 6% of the oxygen in that breath. That's one of the reasons mouth to mouth resusitation works. There is still plenty of oxygen in an expelled breath.

Luscious Media 04-26-2010 08:59 PM

When I was in the Air Force we used to jump in a cockpit, strap on a mask and breath 100% Oxygen for 10 or 15 minutes to help cure a hangover. Worked wonders for me.

What rebreather so you use? I am trimix diver and PADI instructor. Just getting ready for my TX20/30 wreck dive tomorrow.

SEO Expert 04-27-2010 04:19 AM

No, but I tired breathing nitrogen.

I have a 10 year old Drager Dolphin for recreational diving. I'm also a retired PADI, NAUI and SDI/TDI instructor. Where are you diving? I'm a lightweight now. No more deep or cave, lost too many friends.

Put nitrogen in your car's tires. It's better.
