So do any of you have a home gym?

Or even just a home treadmill?

Since it's the new year and since I'm feeling like a fat fuck, I want to buy some exercise equipment.

Everything on tv looks good, have any of you bought anything and did you like it?

Buying equipment is easy. Working out is hard.

So before spending $$$ for equipment I would go to a public gym and find out if I am really prepared for some pain and what kind of equipment I like/need.

If you are very fat I would also suggest to see a doctore first. Ask in your gym for one who is specialized in sports medicine.

IMHO some kind of sport is a must for desk potatoes like ourselves :)

Most home gyms collect dust and are used and clothes hangers.

You would be better off with a gym membership. A gym membership will keep you much more motivated than a home gym.

Webmasters are all fatasses. Almost a fact of life

I bought a load of home gym aerobic equipment - nordic trak, rowing machine, cycling machine. And I never used it after the first week - just got excruciatingly boring.

If you want aerobic exercise, much more motivating to join an air conditioned gym, with pounding music, sauna and beautiful babes - or just go for a cycle or a swim.

However, I do have some free weights, and an abroller which I use weekly at home, as well as doing yoga.

I don't know why I like that stuff, and not the home aerobic machines, that's just the way it goes.

Free weights kick ass. They give a much better workout than machines.

supportex 12-29-2002 06:34 AM

Weight lifting is boring. Better buy good snowboarding/windsurfing equipment and have some fun outside :)

Tried a gym 15min away from me, bought a years membership and stopped going after about 1 month :)

Then I tried a gym 5min away from me, that lasted for about 2 months...

Now I use free weights to work out at home every day for like 10min, and have done so for about a year and have gotten pretty good results...for a lazy fuck as me working out home infront of the tv is the best option...

Powercage with 620+ pounds of plates, 700+ pounds of hex dumbells, lat extension, pullys, roman chair, and the old fashioned ab wheel (which happens to be my favorite out of all of it).

I got some big free weights and an exercise bike. Been planning on buying a bench.

I joined a gym that is less than a 5 min walk so then I have no reason to cheat and not go.

Got powerblocks (powerblocks.com), and a half cage with bar, weights etc (although I'm small so the weight doesn't go very high). Weight machines are a waste of time. I do Yoga or use a recumbent bike for cardio (you can use a computer while you bike which is nice). I hate gyms with a passion...

nocostporn 12-29-2002 01:34 PM

dude you only need one tool to un fat fuckify yourself,Get yourself a sit-down excercise bike with all the settings...DON'T get a treadmill, even if you're not tired they just get boring... You can sit your fat ass on it,eat dinner, watch tv and still work out... I'm not fat lol but I still use mine at least 2 hours a day

If you're getting anything with weights make sure you have someone to work out with...

Or stick to cardio..like a treadmill, stairmaster etc.

Sassyass 12-29-2002 01:41 PM

I'd lift weights....
but they are too heavy.

HeadPimp 12-29-2002 01:47 PM

I go to the gym so I can at least say that I get some time out of the house at least once in a while (other than going to get mochas)

netstarz 12-29-2002 01:55 PM

Get a membership someplace period. I have had a complete gym set up at my house for most of my life. I only work out when I am actually paying for a membership and I make sure I have somebody that goes with me so I hate to cancel on them. Motivation sometimes has to be invented.

Kiko_Wu 12-29-2002 03:40 PM

Money is a damn good motivator. I get fat, I don't make money.

Although still a fatass, I have made a lot of progress over the past year. I highly recommend swimming. I think it is the best overall cardio and using all your muscles while low impact on your joints...exercise you can do. And its different then your normal activities so it doesn't get boring as fast. I go 4 times per wweek for a swim and it has helped burn off lots of pizzas.
