Five years ago today a 19 second video of youtube co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo was uploaded to youtube.

Here's a few fun facts I got from today's newspaper:



The youtube domain name was registered on Feb. 14, 2005

Google paid $1.65 Billion in dollars worth of stock to acquire youtube in Nov. 2006

24 hours of video uploaded every minute a milestone reached in March of 2009

youtube claims to have reached 1 billion views per day in Oct. 2009

An uploader made $30,000 in youtube's ad revenue sharing program for " David after Dentist " ( kid was still feeling the drugs )

The most popular video on youtube is Lady GaGa's " Bad Romance " with 185.39 million views

I think they pretty much just bit off of Newgrounds.com. Too bad, Newgrounds would have been a much cooler youtube.
