I need a simple, good, and FREE stats for my site...
 

Hey, I don't know shit about websites really. I just stumble through... but my site has been up for awhile with no issues thank gawd. I just realized I have no way to check the stats on it... a site I used to have the google analytics were installed by someone else.

Is google analytics good? If not help me with another. I don't need anything complex, just some idea of the traffic on my index.html page is it really. And its gotta be free. Thanks!

Ok, I looked at them and am feeling the statcounter... so whats so bad about google analytics anyways? I heard a few people say its crap, thats why I asked on here for other options. Just curious.

Don't use Google Analytics. Why would you want to let Google have access to your traffic information? I can think of all kinds of nefarious things they can do with your data.

stay away from piwik, if you have big traffic on site, your box will die fast..

Google analytics and webmaster tools, does everything you need and is great for SEO info.
Your server will probably have stats installed, webalizer or awstats maybe.

I like statcounter.com, never hangs site loading like some other trackers.

You've got a mysql configuration issue. I use Piwik and use it to track over 1.2 million pageviews per day on a mediocre server. Quad core xeon, raid and 4GB of ram.

Google Analytics is nice but is way too much info for regular people. Statcounter is your best bet.

One time I put Google Analytics on my site and my pages that were ranked in the top 4 positions all plummeted to position #8. I removed GA and it went back up. I personally do not like GA for that reason, giving them too much info can harm your rankings in my experience and I've seen some other webmasters too. Give it a try if you like though.

Google Analytics and pikiwiki are both great. You would be fine with either, although Google Analaytics is easier to get help and support for, because if the wider user base.

I saw the suggestion for using Piwik for stats on this message so I figured I'd try it out on my server and wow! I have fallen in love with Piwik :) If it continues to work great I'll be using it from now on with all my web sites.

Why not using awstats?

(used extremetracking.com, it's really good, maybe better than statcounter.com, but I can't keep 100 of logins... and with statcounter.com you can have multiple counters under one login...)

I use analytics and I think its the best. I do use almost all the tools and its true most dont and dont even understand what they are looking at. BUT stats are the key to making more money.
