Oysters/mussels lovers -- what's your favorite way to eat them?
Raw?
Smoked? Steamed? Fried? In garlic butter or au naturale? Anyone else ever had them on the barbecue? What about deep fried with a light breading? I've had them both these ways and both were terrific. Personally I'm not picky, I'll eat them just about any old way. You? http://scienceblogs.com/zooillogix/O...au%20Lyon1.jpg |
I'm also not too picky, oysters I like best just raw in the half shell.
|
I love raw myself :)
|
Mussels or clams, steamed and served in a garlic broth, with toasted pumpernickel and a beer.
Oysters... disgusting. |
MMmm oysters on the half shell. When I lived in Florida I used to go to an oyster bar with my girlfriend and buy them buy the buckets. I can't get enough. I will however eat them steamed and fried oyster sammiches are pretty darn tasty too.
I prefer mussels steamed though. Steamed in a garlic butter sauce and served over angel hair pasta. Yum |
Oysters raw with maybe a little good spicy cocktail sauce on the side. Mussels... the other night i had them with this coconut curry and tomato sauce at this all you can eat mussels for $12 per person by my house and they were amazing.

Not a big fan, reminds me of having a bad head cold.
. |
Steamed on a cracker with horseradish. We have a great place where they shuck them right in front of you , they sell them by the peck I think it's 30 to a peck.
|
In garlic butter & most definatly sucking the oozing juice out after the muscle slips down the throat... yum!
|
Oysters raw with raw garlic, Tabasco and crushed sea salt.
Mussels steamed or grilled with lemon and beer. |
raw oysters with lemon+tabasco
cooked mussels with lemon |
Raw... don't like them cooked. Whenever I visit the SF Bay Area I try and have lunch at one of the oyster farm/restaurants on Tomales Bay, about 45 minutes north of SF.
|
Oysters = on a toothpick, wrapped around a jalapeno slice, dusted in cayenne and sauteed in butter
Mussels = in a white wine, garlic, olive oil and basil/oregano sautee. I'm a seafood fanatic, but I just can't understand raw oysters. When you chew them its like snot, and when you shoot them....well shit, it's just tasteless and expensive. |
Smoked oysters or fried oysters in a meal. Smoked mussels. Neither of them raw...yuck.
|
that shit looks nasty...each to his own if you like it i just wouldnt ever try it
|
oysters i like Raw the most. second is deep fried. a lot of japanese places have friend oysters. they are great.
Mussels i like to be cooking in a tomato garlic sauce |

If I judged all food soley by how it looks I'd have never tried chili since it looks like dog vom. Glad I don't, I love chili. Oysters are one of those foods that has so many good ways of being served but the best way is raw, because they taste incredible and as a bonus when they slide down your throat they go down like snot. :D Seriously, get past the looks, man up and at least try it before you go knocking it. If you like seafood at all you will like oysters. |
au naturale with a tiny sprinkle of lemon
|
Believe it or not, smoked oysters out of a can on some water crackers.

Sprinkle Worcestershire sauce over oysters. Top with bacon. Grill, on the salt, for 5 to 8 minutes or until bacon is crisp. Sprinkle with parsley. Serve with lemon." Sounds good. Might be worth a try one day. |
Nowhere more than a couple of miles from the ocean. That is for sure. I get them down the street and have a choice of about twenty kinds. I like them raw.... barbecued....fried..freshly smoked....anything but canned.
|
I like them cooked live, in their shell, on the bbq grill. When they open, they are done.
So damn tasty. |
In oriental light soup ...bamboo sprouts, chinese mushroom and oysters.... yummy!
|
Anything but raw!
I got over my lifelong aversion to sushi, but I don't think I'll be able to beat this one. |
Made a killer mussels marinara last night, fresh rope cultured local mussels.

Any way I can get them. Oysters RAW (yum), steamed and dipped in a little lemon and butter, or fried and inside a po'boy. Mussels are great cooked with shallots, lemon, butter and a sprinkling of parsley on top or throw them in a pasta with pretty much the same ingredients.
|
I like em raw with lemon and the tasty lil smoked ones over my pizza
|
i like it baked
|
