website speed
Hey guys we have just made quite a few changes to our site code so we wondered how the general speed of the site is for you. would appreciate some feedback. there is some free stuff there if you want it. :thumbsup
Thanks Scarlett |
It appears to be ok from my end when I surfed it.

Scarlett,
Just off top here are some quick things you may want to look into: Many of your images are missing width / height attributes, the total number of objects on your Homepage is 89, which by their number will dominate web page delay (try 20 objects or less if you can), combine, refine, and optimize your external CSS files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed CSS for high-traffic pages) on your pages instead of 3 which you now have, the total size of your homepage is 967347 bytes, which will load in 210.59 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 100K to achieve sub 20 second response times on 56K connections, the total size of your HTML file is 96982 bytes (consider optimizing and eliminating unnecessary features), also your image sizes, script sizes, and external CSS size need to be optimized. It's going to take some time to work the bugs out, but you are on the right track. Just keep digging online for info and fixing 1 thing at a time. Gotta crawl before you can walk. Best of luck! |

thanks for the info, will have a dig around to try to reduce some ojects etc, not so easy with so much dynamic content. does anyone use 56k anymore :( |
I highly doubt that any of your customers would be on dialup 56K modem, let's hope they surf with something better. But if you optimize and make load times at least decent on a 56K modem, you are very safe for all other speeds.
Considering that your normal customer probably have some kind of broadband connection, you can afford to have a little heavier site than normally. But even on my broadband here it takes some good 10 seconds or so for the whole page to fully load. There's google analytics, there are the cart system and much more. Determine what needs to be on the front page. Maybe even consider a lighter front page, with some welcome and some "daily special" or new featured content on, and then one can click on to the "real" site. A quick loaded page to get people in the door. |
I am on a dedicated T1 and your mainpage took 1.06 seconds to load
|
I clicked on lesbians in left column and took 9 seconds to load the page, me counting. Hi speed cable connection US
|
thanks guys, the site is on a dedicated server with 100mbit pipe, I guess the slowish loading is due to many mysql requests. will look deeper into it.
|
Double post, sorry for that
|
The site itself has always been fast but what is very slow is checking out the thumbnail samples of your content. Especially is you have two windows open at the same time checking out 2 sets at once.
|
Yep
Looks good to me :thumbsup
