In 9 years, more US military personnel have taken their own lives than have died in action
:Oh crap:Oh crap:Oh crap
Here is a shocking statistic that you won't hear in most western news media: over the past nine years, more US military personnel have taken their own lives than have died in action in either the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. These are official figures from the US Department of Defence, yet somehow they have not been deemed newsworthy to report. Last year alone, more than 330 serving members of the US armed forces committed suicide - more than the 320 killed in Afghanistan and the 150 who fell in Iraq (see wsws.org). http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.p...t=va&aid=16916 |
Probably the same reason why they don't report on accidental training deaths either.... The fact is that with a population of several million people serving in the military, you will have a certain number commit suicide, in peacetime as well as with a war on.... especially with how stressful the jobs can be. It actually just goes to show how few people are being killed in these wars, considering that they are WARS for goodness sake.
Having said that, the numbers are certainly higher than in the recent past, and that has been reported on in a lot of places . |
no matter if they are killed in action or kill themselves, its a shame that even one life is lost to such a pointless and fruitless war.

this has been covered by many news agencies and the ratio is equal to civilian suicides, adjusting for demographics.
