So many good songs..I've always liked 'Till there was you' 'Golden Slumber', 'Eleanor Rigby' 'She's Leaving Home' and probably my favourite 'Let It Be'. It kills me whan younger people say "The Beatles aren't that great". To that I say "you weren't there". To me, you just cannot fully appreciate how important the beatles were (and are) unless you grew up with them like I did. I was 8 when they played Ed Sullivan and I had two older sisters who loved them, so I heard all their music all my growing up years. I remember having a little transistor radio (remember those?) and at night, I'd lie in bed and listen to the Beatles. You just had to be there, man.Comment

The only people who say that are those who are too young and don't understand the origins of their own favorite songs from today's music, or they just plain don't have an ounce of musical taste OR they completely utterly lack the sense to at least recognize the originality and genius this band displayed back in that era. Music today wouldn't be the same were it not for bands like the Beatles.
It's not that one HAD to be there, it's that they need to be able to appreciate the music, and the history of it. Listen to the Beatles and the albums of many other key bands from the time and someone with a true appreciation of the music and the history of rock can actually hear and visualize the history in the music.

I was born in 1964, so missed their early years. But I remember visiting an aunt in Kansas as a kid and one of my cousins had every beatles album out and a nice stereo with big headphones (and a funny smelling, pointy cigarette butt in an ashtray) and one day I sat and listened to maybe 4 or 5 whole albums
I know people think Paul or John mostly when thinking of the beatles sound, but I feel that George is the one who's tone and sound are the most recognizable parts of their songs.
