Sheriff Branford: The fact that you are a sheriff is not germane to the situation.
Buford T. Justice: The god damn Germans got nothin' to do with it.

He was a patient the whole time. The last 5 minutes reinforced it with the question he has his partner (doctor) and then the doc giving Ben Kingsly the nod to have the procedure performed.

Tried to keep it vague in case someone didn't see the spoiler alert notice you provided. :)

The book makes it obvious he was a patient, but I still think Scorcese does his best to fuck with our minds.

CaptainHowdy 04-11-2010 01:25 PM

I believe that it is a well known Hollywood actor impersonating a psychiatric patient.

You're kinda a maroon.

Shutter Island was a master class in American film direction. The fact that this is the only thing you've come up with about the film means that you weren't really paying attention because Scorsese deliberately tips you off to this very early in the film.

Why dont you shut the fuck up you small pizda? Thats what I was saying - its a far too simple explanation, something that anyone could understand fifthteen minutes into the movie , which is also what makes the opposite quite more intriguing. Pay attention to all _other_small details.

OTerror 04-11-2010 02:03 PM

Pretty good story. I liked the film but in the middle I already had an idea of what was to come.

You = moron.

Name the 'all _other_small details' that could possibly support your pointless pothead interpretation.

VladS 04-11-2010 03:43 PM

He was a patient indeed the whole time. Nice movie, i've enjoyed watching it.

The net is full of them, and what I am saying is that the whole story about him being insane is so easily bought. Anyone, even you, would come to the conclusion that he had in fact been hospitalized for X years, but if you read between the lines there are chances its not the case. In the book its clearly evident he was, but Scorcese had the chance to change the story to his liking and make the ending open for interpretation. The beauty of it all would of course be having 95% of the viewers thinking, "oh yes, haha, of course I understood the story" talking about "but what did he mean with that monster/good guy question in the end?" instead! Now, I would like to ask you, you philistine cunt, would you like to blow me with or without dickcheese?

Caligari 04-11-2010 04:47 PM

Good film but not original, the idea of the person in charge actually being the inmate has been done. But I liked it, thought it was well made and its Scorcese...

GTS Mark 04-11-2010 05:44 PM

I watched it the other day, quite liked it and it really fucked with your head near the end!

Raf1 04-12-2010 03:28 AM

haven't seen it, but thanks for the spoiler :)

v4 media 04-12-2010 03:45 AM

Read the book a few years ago so sort of knew the ending...

yeah, made me go wtf ?? But then I not as smart, as all the others in here:Oh crap

John-ACWM 04-12-2010 09:51 AM

Successful remake, it was a pretty good story.

Marcus Aurelius 05-23-2010 02:40 AM

Why is it so hard to believe there were indeed illegal experiments going on the Island and the docs were scared he was going to uncover them, so they kept fucking with him all the time he was on the Island (drugs) and in the end made him believe he was a patient?

The ending reinforces this when the guy knows there is no way out, but refuses to play by their rules and makes a conscious decision to get a lobotomy ("die like a man")

seeandsee 05-23-2010 02:45 AM

i like the end were he wants to get fucked by doctors...

Great movie! I love it! It keeps you focused on all the time.

kmanrox 05-23-2010 10:01 AM

i'll admit.. i had to google to re-ensure my own conclusion was correct.. it was for once.

Davy 05-23-2010 10:15 AM

Why does this movie need an interpretation? They explain everything in the end. Or did you fall asleep?

I predicted the ending during the opening scene... I was really hoping that the ending would be different and a little more complicated, because it was really too easy and simple. I thought Scorsese would have been able to come up with something a little less obvious :2 cents:

kmanrox 05-23-2010 10:29 AM

contrary to what fuzebox says, the average reading level in a typical newspaper i believe is like 6th grade... movies like this baffle the shit out of ppl... even me ;)

but in my defense, i DID get it.. just wasnt 100% sure i had it so i googled hehe
