UPS hiring drivers; $74K a year

The company wants to hire 25,000 new drivers at an average salary of $74,000.

Boozer 04-09-2010 06:10 AM

Its a little misleading. 90% of those positions will be filled from within per union contract.

bloggerz 04-09-2010 06:12 AM

UPS usually gets their drivers from within the company already

PlugRush Sascha 04-09-2010 06:38 AM

Didn't know they get paid that well.

seeandsee 04-09-2010 07:15 AM

nice salary if its country based driving

hard to do when 25% of your workforce is retiring within 5 years.

from within or not, $74k/year to drive a delivery van isn't bad at all :thumbsup

Sid70 04-09-2010 07:25 AM

i can drivez a van for that dough, my dream job!

Raf1 04-09-2010 07:40 AM

that's not a bad wage for a driver

geedub 04-09-2010 07:46 AM

when i lived in madison, wi i used to see ads for temp employees around the holiday time and even those guys are getting 13 - 16 an hour.

FrozenJag 04-09-2010 08:59 AM

If I was looking for a job, I definetly wouldnt mind banking 75k/year driving a UPS truck. Those guys hustle all day long but its definetly not HARD work.

directfiesta 04-09-2010 09:07 AM

plus benefits and pension..

Do your time and you are on the golf course in Florida or Arizona by 55 years old !

Bman 04-09-2010 10:05 AM

I have a couple friends of friends that drive for them...they love it. work 10 years + there.
And these were the stoner group out of my High School so for them it was their best option lol.

fatfoo 04-09-2010 10:12 AM

$74,000... Unbelievable.

Sly 04-09-2010 10:14 AM

I bet they have an awesome benefits package. Probably adds at least another $10,000 a year.

Loch 04-09-2010 10:17 AM

Many of those guys work a ton of overtime. Long ago when I worked for Radio Shack I would talk to the UPS driver that would pick up and deliver to us. He was one of only three guys in the city we were in. He said he would regularly get to work about 7am to check his truck then hit the road and often wouldn't get back to the warehouse until 6pm or later.

If you can handle the hours and the moderate lifting though, driving one of those trucks is a good living.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-09-2010 12:28 PM

Fuck this internet shit. I`m getting a plow truck... :2 cents:

lagcam 04-09-2010 12:41 PM

I don't think the day of a delivery driver is quite as easy as portrayed in King of Queens...........

Training sounds pretty hard, and little time for slacking off when working.

CaptainHowdy 04-09-2010 12:42 PM

I'm innnnnnnnnnnnn!

strobi 04-09-2010 12:51 PM

Better paid than adult for sure!

VeriSexy 04-09-2010 12:51 PM

That's a pretty decent wage

What age do you run yourself over with a truck and end up faking your own death on GFY?

PornMD 04-09-2010 01:14 PM

Only $1.85 billion/yr worth of drivers.

smutnut 04-09-2010 01:16 PM

If that's a salary, I'll bet it's not for 40 hours cause those guys don't work 40 hours and I'll bet that includes the OT you'll be doing. If you want to make real cash become a California prison guard. They are changing things now, but with OT those guys were making well over 100k. I have stories of 150 and 200 and ups. No shit.

All you need is a clean rap sheet, so you can see the problems finding someone like that in CA :1orglaugh

Yes.......there is NO slacking time. The trucks are monitored via GPS and the time it takes to do the route is predetermined. You don't get it done in the allotted time you have some explaining to do.

If you can bust your ass........and I mean bust your ass hard, 12 or more hours a day......more during Christmas then this is a great job. I have a great deal of respect for UPS drivers and know quite a few of them. Fantastic work ethics and the company treats you good via wage and benefits. The job is not for everyone though and your really don't have much of a life other than your job. I know I couldn't do it.

Driving for UPS keeps you fit.

I've had my UPS guy call me at 7 p.m. telling me that he forgot to drop something off and would do it the next day instead. The same UPS guy that would normally do drops in the morning. So yeh, definitely long hours.

It's a terrific company to work for... it's not uncommon for someone who started as a package handler, store clerk or driver to become part of top management or a franchise store owner.

Me too. If I had any brains I would have bought a truck early this past December, where I would have had4 snowstorms to plow out of and made some serious bank. I'm talking multiple thousands in just a few days.

But I might not have made the wrong decision. I chose Pattaya Thailand for the winter instead. Going 3 months strong next week. Hmmmmm.:pimp

mrjoint 04-09-2010 02:31 PM

I thought big rig drivers made over $100K ?

Garbage Trucks = Waste Management = lots of gabagoo!

crockett 04-09-2010 03:25 PM

They bust their asses for that 75k. Not saying it's not a good company to work for but those guys often work very long days.

NetHorse 04-09-2010 04:19 PM

I knew quite a few people that worked for UPS back in the day, they all said it was slave labor. I bet 75% of you guys who sit in front of your computers the majority of the day couldn't do it..:2 cents:

Last thing I want to do is guard a bunch of criminal blacks and mexicans. One little flinch and I'd be unloading whatever weapon they gave me. Not worth it...

GotGauge 04-09-2010 05:10 PM

You get benifits After 1 year and 18 months for family now!
Drivers work 12+ HOURS A DAY. You have to put in a request for an 8 hour day only!
They are firing people like crazy with insurance, and high pay! You use to have to wait 5+ years to go drive, now 6 months Max.

DaddyHalbucks 04-09-2010 06:32 PM

In this economy, that is a great salary.

2012 04-09-2010 06:35 PM

thanks for the heads up. jack n the box is really starting to suck
