Tech people: Is it possible to ban google analytics ?
Lately, i've noticed more and more sites loading slower, with wait times attributed to google analytics. Google analytics script just takes too long to process. (i can see it in the status bar that the analytics url is loading)
I was wondering if I could just disable it in hosts file. You know, like the stupid ads on GFY. What do you think, is it doable? |
Use a java blocker problem solved.

I think this is what you are referring to:
http://www.ccsf.edu/Policy/Privacy/ga.html Lot of other information on Google for "how to block google analytics". Good Luck! |

To block google analytics, add this to your hosts file
127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com 127.0.0.1 google-analytics.com 127.0.0.1 ssl.google-analytics.com |
Yes, say this outloud... "Google Analytics... I BAN THEE!"
|
Google Analytics released a new version, one which would work around blocked javascripts, haven't tried it myself yet.

What are some other (free) alternatives?

I'd be more concerned about the data that G is gathering rather than it slowing down sites... the more sites that add it the more they can build a picture of your surfing habits.
