Tech people: Is it possible to ban google analytics ?
 

Lately, i've noticed more and more sites loading slower, with wait times attributed to google analytics. Google analytics script just takes too long to process. (i can see it in the status bar that the analytics url is loading)

I was wondering if I could just disable it in hosts file. You know, like the stupid ads on GFY.

What do you think, is it doable?

not only that... why anyone would be willing to give google access to such detailed info about his traffic is beyond me...

To block google analytics, add this to your hosts file

127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com
127.0.0.1 google-analytics.com
127.0.0.1 ssl.google-analytics.com

Google Analytics released a new version, one which would work around blocked javascripts, haven't tried it myself yet.

what i meant, is that other people use it on their websites making it slow

i would guess it doesn't work around blockers but instead doesn't use javascripts period. My advice is don't use GA period.

I know, but I was just using the thread to let people know that using Google Analytics on your site is.... not very smart from an seo point of view.

What are some other (free) alternatives?

I'd be more concerned about the data that G is gathering rather than it slowing down sites... the more sites that add it the more they can build a picture of your surfing habits.
