Throwback basketball

this is fucking great - all these kids on Butler and Duke are playing crazy defense and team basketball, if you turned the color off you'd think it was 1955. lots of white players

If that were an NBA game there would have been about 800 freethrows taken.

I hate that it didn't end differently, but the 'Dogs don't have to hang their heads. That was one hell of a game.

It could have gone either way, it was a really fun game to watch.

This game was what I think basketball should be about. I don't really think that the 3 has added much to the game, and I hate when a game consists of running up and down the court wingning 3's. So something that was really a defensive showcase was a real treat to get to watch.

it was one for the ages - just sad it wasn't Butler. not sure any of the Butler players will have a shot at the NBA.

Most of them will be back next year. And while the media played up the Cinderella aspect of it, Butler has been and up-and-coming team for a few years. I think they were in the coach's Top 10 for the pre-season. So they still have a shot at it.

There were lots of fitting comparisons made between the team and the fictional Hickory Huskers. I've read enough of your posts to know that you seem to be a hoops fan, Mutt, so you may already know this, but Milan...the real life Hickory Huskers...was not quite the Cinderella story that the movie makes them out to be either. They had went to the state semi-finals the year before returning to win the championship the next year.

So maybe Butler will follow the footsteps of the real life Hoosiers, and take it all home next time around. :winkwink:

As far as the NBA goes...who knows? Hayward is only a sophomore, so it will be interesting to see how he evolves as a player over the next couple of years.

Duke is going all the way.
