Hostgator any good?
 

Does anybody use Hostgator to host any sites? Are they any good? I'm looking for a new decent reseller host with CPanel and something that will INFORM me when I reach my bandwidth limit, UNLIKE my last fucking host who hit me with a huge bill at the end of the month even thought I had limits setup in WHM.

I have no problems at all.

HOSTGATOR Been using them for around three years now and never had any probs with them. They are cheap and their support is very good and online 24/7

They claim to offer unlimited bandwidth but will boot you if you use a lot (like any host that makes that claim). Other than that they are OK

I used to have an account with them, canceled though.

the "unlimited bandwidth" is not unlimited... they give you max bandwidth of 10mbit so basically you get a really basic service.

I wouldn't. They suck. Nothing but overcrowded servers that crap out during peak hours.

My last site on their hosting took 18 seconds to load fully (avg) and when I switched that changed to 4 seconds (avg)

hostgator is 100% piece of shit.When you chose this trash is like you shot yourself in the leg IMHO.

Any suggestions other than Hostgator then?

This is such an important point and one sadly that so many find out about after they have lost so much business. While not everyone will leave in that difference of 14 seconds; How many will and what is that in lost revenue vs the cost of quality hosting.

You work very hard and invest significant resources to get traffic to your site, don't loose it there because your site doesn't load fast enough and your hard earned traffic moves on.

If someone has a affiliate link they are, but the reality they have horrible support and slow servers. For the same price you can something a lot better and not pay to have some other bandwidth slow down your server for the same price you pay.

I have used hostgator. Their customer service is good and overall server speeds are decent, however one important aspect whether you choose to use them or not should be based on cron jobs.

If you need to use more than 4 cron jobs to process at one specific given time, you will not want to choose another hosting company. When I was with them, I had 6 that needed to be run at exactly on every hour and it would constantly miss it. When I bought it to Hostgator tech support's attention, they said I would need to upgrade my package if I wanted to process that many at a specific time.

One thing to add is that if you need to run a cron every 10 minutes, that is forbidden on Hostgator unless you use their business package.

Nevr tried them but have heard good things about their support. If you do try them let us all know about their speeds. I've been curious myself.

amazing support, nothing to worry about. Latest Cpanel and PHP 5. They always update hosting software to the newest stable version available. :thumbsup

If you like doing business with liars, obviously unlimited hosting is a scam.

Great Company. The only drawback is the decision not to support mod_gzip or mod_deflate on shared and/or reseller plans.

never had problems with hostgator in almost 5 years and they have some affordable reseller accounts

Hostgator can be a great hosting company if you have a small website that has a maximum 2k/day visits. Their bandwidth speed is, like said above, kinda small and yes you can lose good traffic because of it. But for a starter website is great, as they plans are kinda cheap and offer unlimited storage and bandw.
You can buy dedicate servers from them, but they work with theplanet so.. you can easy to and buy directly from the source.

Hostgator is great as far as dedicated servers.... Your basically getting the planets servers and quality coupled with hostgator management.... which is responsive and knowledeable.

I have a TGP site and I used HG until recently. if you are planning to use TGP/MGP etc site, you will be a in a lot of surprises. I learned those surprises pretty quickly.

HostGator is a reseller of ThePlanet. I ran with them (dedicated) for a little over a year. Bandwidth was fast, never had a problem with the servers, prices were reasonable. Support wasn't the greatest but few companies meet my standards of support.

Was that dedicated or shared? I ran with dedicated and don't recall any problems. I had full root access to the box.

I know nothing of the quality of their servers or hosting plans, however, i do know they're a haven for spammers, scammers and thieves. Good luck with traffic trading on a hostgator or the planet ip as most of their ips are blocked or blacklisted.. Good luck getting decent ranks with google since you'll be sharing ips with spammers, scrapers and other scum.

Actually they are pretty good. I recommend them.

I've got a ref code and I'll say they are cunts if you like. Scamming bastards did something funny with all my ref sales a while ago and cancelled EVERYTHING :mad:

Only got some very low traffic small-business websites sat on there so can't really say how good they are at all apart from support does seem to respond quite quickly.

I haven't had a problem with them, but I grew out of them. You can't run openx or other ad servers on them.

They are good for starting and growing a site.

What is their pricing like? Last I remember they were a bit expensive.

If you like slow and broken connections, try www.adult-website-hosting.com for the same price but better services.

I've had my site up for about a year now. It's a small bondage art site and it's been on HG. I'm still too new at this to know if I am having problems. My traffic has always been low (176 visits per day average-yikes!) and I get a trickle of memberships per week. I may be new but I know that sucks. Don't know if it's because of HG or if I'm just not getting the word out in the right way.

I use them for years, but if you want to host adult stuff better use NakeHosting
Offer is almost the same but Naked's service is way better and faster IMO.

Fucking crazy that hostgator is for kids, go with amerinoc and join the big boys.
