can you do a demo page of your video encoding results using Elevated-x? it's a big concern for anybody considering your CMS, the word has not been great about it, i'd like to see for myself.

You're right. A few people have complained publicly on gfy about it. Even after we gave them settings for much better quality encodes, they admitted the quality was great and then complained that it took to long to encode. In all honesty it's not perfect. But it is extremely cheap and for most users it's a much faster and cheaper alternative to paying someone to handle encoding.

We don't post a page showing the results because there are way too many different factors that affect the result. The quality depends a lot on the quality of the source video, settings, etc.

The bottom line is that very high quality video encoding is possible but the trade off is slower speed of encoding. The better the quality, the longer it takes to encode.

On the plus side, we first announced that the CMS had encoding back in April of 2008. Server-side encoding is a feature that over 80% of our users have been enjoying for the last 2 years. The number of people who are happy with it outnumber those who are unhappy about 8 to 1. It's not something we hear a lot of complaints about as most people understand that the results this provides don't compare with the results of local encoding.

If you'd like to see the encoding results shoot me an email. We'll be happy to take one of your videos and do a test encode for you. :)

Yes. The video transcoder has both MP4 and 3GP as an encoding option by default :)

RealityCash, ClubJenna, and our host of programs couldn't be happier.

Elevated X has been a savior and has provided a great product.

great stuff guys!

How hard would it be to carry everything over from Carma to this system.
The learning and implementing was pretty intensive and I dont want to go though that process again...

Ask AJ for a demo, it's pretty stright forward. I've worked a few CMS's and this one is the most powerful. I looked at the demo last night. Going to ask what one of the main templates look like and that is so far the only question I have.

The work involved depends how much content you need to move.

For a site with a few hundred updates or less you could do the bulk of the work by hand in a matter of days.

For a site or multiple sites with a large amount of updates we can give you database documentation that a developer can use to do a bulk migration and move everything over.

If you want to shoot me an email I'll be happy to look at what you have and give you an idea of what's involved. [email protected]

Elevated-X is a great system to deal with. Once you get it all setup, it's simple - and with the fully-100% Smarty templates, even a Caveman can do it!

Vendzilla 04-01-2010 04:40 PM

templates are pretty straight forward, reminds me of the templates comus used

EZRhino 04-01-2010 05:40 PM

Nice job! Good luck with the roll out.

Thanks guys. We put a ton of time into redoing the template system in Smarty several months ago. For this new version we reworked them again to make them easier to edit and simplify it as much as possible so I'm glad you're able to see the difference.

Good stuff AJ, elevatex has sure taken off!

Zuzana Designs 04-06-2010 12:49 PM

Great news AJ and congrats. I know you guys have been working very hard to get this new version out. We have been working with ElevatedX on several projects and the support and product is Amazing. The new template system with Smarty templates makes it even easier to work with. Zuzana Designs highly recommends ElevatedX.

GrouchyAdmin 04-06-2010 12:58 PM

I can't stress enough how much easier it's made it to exchange the XSLT to the Smarty templating system.

Making changes and rebulding entire designs is simple for the design team, and from the technical side, it takes about 10% of the time to implement.

Much of this is a result of your product suggestion. Thanks for asking for Smarty...we listened to your request :)

As critical as you are of this kind of stuff, hearing positive feedback like this means a lot to us!

ElevatedX has really taken us to the next level and I couldn't be happier with it.
Similarly AJ is a top bloke who listens to clients and takes customer support to another level.
3.2 looks great and I can't wait to upgrade :thumbsup

With regards to the server side encoding done by the cms I will say that the quality is pretty good for the most part. I feed it a 1440X1080 WMV and have it encode wmv and flash at 960X540 1500 KBps and Mp4 640X480 1500 Kbps. The weakest encode for me is the wmv 960X540. Its not as good as I could do from an encode direct from the timeline but it saves me valuable time and is pretty acceptable IMHO. Especially considering that members can choose an HD quality download if they really want the best available option.

:thumbsup

The new elevx is TERRIFIC!
I have worked on dozens of elevatedx projects in the last year or so, and I just love it.
But if the former versions were awesome, this one... WOW, this one just takes the cake.
Great job, guys!

Just an update - We're about caught up with the initial upgrade requests.

For existing Elevated X users there's no longer a wait to upgrade your setup to version 3.2 :thumbsup
