Ok, who has a 3D TV already?

DAMN!

It is INCREDIBLE. My girlfriend and I went to Future Shop completely stoned and we sat and watched Monsters VS Aliens or whatever in 3D. INCREDIBLE!!!

I'm looking for someone who has a 3D TV who has hooked it up to their computer. Apparently the TV will make anything 3D with some sort of chip it has in it.

Anybody?

lost&found 03-27-2010 06:55 PM

woo whoo 3D porn!!!!

I can watch my own videos in 3d now!!!

Semi-Retired-Dave 03-27-2010 06:59 PM

Doesn't it have to be shot in 3D to watch it in 3D?

According to the demo dude, non-3D is upscaled and looks "good" according to him.

EscortBiz 03-27-2010 07:02 PM

Interesting.

Does it come with some cool high tech glasses?

fatfoo 03-27-2010 08:45 PM

It will take some years before they will make 3D hollograms.

Yep and they are about $150/pr. (edit: by "pair" I mean they are $150/each)

To the OP: I just ordered a 55" Samsung 3D a few days ago (mainly in anticipation for the ESPN 3D channels about to debut). We'll see if it's worth the money...

Is Samsung keeps rolling with their domination in quality, I'd have to say you made the right choice on your purchase. Their LED TVs were by far the best in their class.

F-U-Jimmy 03-27-2010 09:30 PM

I watched the Samsung at Best Buy its amazing but im waiting until they bring out the 8500 series 3D. It will top $4000 but that series was the very best samsung ever made

JD 03-27-2010 09:39 PM

imo the whole 3D thing is a fad that will burn out in 6mo

Not so sure of that, today's 3D is a lot different than even 2009's idea of 3D

Not at all.

Big brands are pumping billions in bringing 3d technology to the homes of people.
Its not the same 3d blue/red bullshit that 3d was years ago.

But hey im a bit biased :)

I have a lot of 3d domains, and theres a lot of interest in those too ;)

Waddymelon 03-28-2010 12:01 AM

Anybody know if my Samsung Series 8 LED 240mhz will work with this 3d stuff or can be upgraded or whatever? I paid $3900 for this TV just last August and really dont feel like buying another tv yet.

rokoroko 03-28-2010 12:44 AM

I'm sorry to say it, but I think you're stuck. I know the feeling, I paid about the same price for my Samsung LED LCD tv just before the straight LEDs came out and it sucked, ha ha.

halfpint 03-28-2010 07:47 AM

No but I have the domain 3dpornoclips.com if anybody want to buy it

Youre wrong.

The content itself has to be shot in 3D before you can watch it on 3D TVs.

andrej_NDC 03-28-2010 08:03 AM

Pioneer should close shop, Samsung has the same quality for a few years now, but is 70% cheaper. Samsung plasma and LED rocks!

clicker 03-28-2010 08:14 AM

Dont have one as of yet. I told my GF about them and she said "im not wearing glasses to watch TV". I think alot of women dont care about TV. I cant even get her to switch to HD channels and we pay for it.

My wife doesn't see the difference between SD and HD or she doesn't care.

Ain't that a bitch.

The glasses are one of the obsticles I see for early adopters. Say it's fight night, everyone gathers over your place to see the event on your 3-D TV, but there's only 4 pairs of 3D glasses.

I bet they aren't even providing 4 pairs with the sets, more likely you just get 2.

The price on the glasses will probably come down over time and maybe then it will make more sense for someone in my situation, but we do alot of group things at our place. I grabbed one of the Phillips ambilight plasmas the other year. It's gorgeous. Lots of our friends come over to watch shit, kinda gives it a bit of a movie theatre feel. It's hard enough for me to keep track of my every day glasses. In my mind I see the 3D glasses getting broken- getting dropped getting sat on, getting chewed by one of the dogs, etc.

That's just me though, in my house we don't do well with nice things :winkwink:

3xTom 03-28-2010 09:05 AM

Yep i have the samsung 55" 3d very very exceptional TV.
I have been blown everway everytime I watch it

and yes it upconverts 2d to 3d you can even play your playstation wii xbox or whatever and it upcoverts the games to 3d as well

I have a friend that can't see the difference between SD and HD. I'm convinced he is blind.

Switch from standard to high, same channel... if your girlfriend can't see the difference, she obviously isn't with you for your looks! LOL.

BlackCrayon 03-28-2010 11:25 AM

i am not a fan of 3d...it seems that in large backgrounds look blurred to give the 3d effect and who really wants that? i am not watching tv to be impressed by special effects. i am in it first and foremost for the plot/jokes/etc.

Si 03-28-2010 11:35 AM

I'll wait for the price to come down a bit first

Loch 03-28-2010 11:53 AM

Cyber Fucker 03-28-2010 12:23 PM

I'm ready for 3D business :D

MPGdevil 03-28-2010 12:59 PM

Was about to buy a Samsung LED tv a week ago, but then I read about their 9000 series unveiled at this year's CES. Think I'll wait for that.

Samsung is going whole hog into 3-D with their newly announced TV lineup, but at the top is the 9000 series: an LED-backlit panel that's just 0.3 inches thin. And on its remote. a color touchscreen that can carry broadcast TV while you watch a Blu-ray disc.

The 9000 series features all of the trappings of a high-end HDTV which now of course includes 3-D support via active shutter glasses. Like Toshiba's Cell TV, the 9000's processor can also convert your two-dimensional video to 3-D. Also on board is Wi-Fi to connect to the new Samsung Apps store--a bet that we will enjoy loading our Samsung-branded televisions, Blu-ray players and smartphones with applications like those we're already enjoying on our iPod toches and iPhones.

If you can't provide glasses for all your guests perhaps you could hold some sorta contest before the fight to see who gets to use them or just let them fight it out between themselves before the main event. Maybe they could buy their own dam glasses :winkwink:

As for the glasses getting lost or broken, how are they any different than a remote?

People keep saying that the glasses are stupid looking but when I went to see AVATAR in 3D at an upscale movie theater they had really nice 3d glasses that could've easily passed for today's sunglasses and weren't dorky at all. As the technology becomes more popular I'm sure designers will be coming out with better styles and Companies like Ray-Ban will have models of their own and stuff like 3D glasses caddies will be available to store them.

It will take several years for 3D to grab a significant market share but I think it eventually will.

3D from a television works differently. Thats why you have to have a TV that has at least a 120Mhz refresh rate. The glasses are actually LCD and they shutter the provide the 3D effect. They shutter so fast that your eyes cant see it, but you get the 3D effect. Thats why they need batteries.

3D in movie theaters is provided by polarized light, which televisions cant produce. Thats why you get polarized 3D glasses that look like sunglasses. No batteries required.

You are right :thumbsup

I keep forgetting the difference between the two and associate all 3D with the theater kind. I recently saw on a xbox forum a thread about the AVATAR game that is in 3D and they talked about the glasses you need for your TV as you've described.

With that said, my point still stands that in time they will make the technology more user friendly much like they did with cell phones. I can remember back when people were complaining about having to carry around some 10 lb. bag with them whenever they wanted to use their cell phone and look where we are today :winkwink:

MaDalton 03-28-2010 02:18 PM

i wear glasses already - how am i supposed to put the 3D glasses on top of them? and i also tend to work on my laptop while i watch a movie - don't think that works with 3D glasses. so i will pass i think

Huggles 03-29-2010 05:37 AM

That 9000 model TV made me jizz.

MPGdevil 03-29-2010 06:42 AM

Yes the 9000 TV model and the new Samsung BD-C6900 world's first 3D Blu-Ray disc player would be a nice combo.

The disc player is available already at fx Amazon at a price of $359.

Roby 03-29-2010 07:34 AM

Great TV... i would like to have this.

Scott McD 03-29-2010 07:37 AM

I'm still not sure about all this 3D stuff. I kinda don't see the point in it. An HD tv will do my fine i think... :2 cents:

SGS 03-29-2010 07:39 AM

Sky are shooting all football in 3D already (yes it does have to be shot in 3D) but as for sitting in front of television in the sitting room everynight with glasses on? Not a chance unless it was for something very special.

that sounds awesome, i didn't realise it could do this with 2d movies, can't wait to see the matrix bluray on this tv.

had heard the shutter glasses can give a head ache after a few hours, is this true? the polarized screen at the cinema for avatar seemed fine, no headache at all. Are there any projectors that work like the dolby 3d or imax ones for home use, it would be better for visitors not to have to all that $150 dollar glasses.

Anyway sounds awesome cant wait to get a demo in town now.
