How long should a hosting company take to install a script for you ?
A support ticket is sent asking for a script installed let us say for example Os Commerce or WP nothing too complicated.
What is a "acceptable" time frame for this to be completed? Fully managed server and support are included for this scenario. Let me hear your input. |
1 or 2 days, I would say.
|
If you're with Mojohost, probably within an hour or two
|
Most would have this done in a few hours.
I would say, "max." should be 24 hours. |

Within the hour. Or at worst a reply to the ticket saying when the install can be done if its in depth etc.
Nat net are almost always well within the hour. |
If i was requesting someone to do something such as that..i would be hoping for a 48 hr turnaround.

Hoping for 48 hours? Unless the entire datacenter was on fire, under attack, or had all the servers simultaneously die, I'd be feeling pretty bitchy if it wasn't done in under 2. Or at the very least, the ticket acknowledged with a time frame for completion. I am a happy Mojohost customer though, so my wait is never long. |

let me guess, you host at webair? |
By next business day at the latest.

I always thought that installing of scripts by the host was done as a favor for vip clients... it's actually standard practice with most hosts now a days?
|
I install my own scripts...
|
Mojohost is usually on it for me within a few hours and done that day.
|
24 hours or less i would say.
|
12 hrs max
|
50% of the time Naked Hosting will have a script install done for me within a half hour to an hour. The other 50% of the time it's under 3 hours, but stretching it out to three hours has only happened once or twice and it was a more complex script.
Reflected always gets script installs done for me in under an hour; many times a half hour. I'd be happy with a routine script install within 24 hours unless I elevated the ticket and asked for priority. |

Managed hosting == the host does everything for you, setup, scripts, whatever. unmanaged hosting == they plug it in, make sure it has network access, and then you're on your own. I come from a unix admin and security background so I always go with unmanaged hosting. I've noticed that almost all of the hosts on gfy are in the managed category. |

24 hours or end of the following business day which ever is longer. really no excuse for anything else in my opinion.
|
mojo is super fast with shit like that. we just switch to mojo and they kick ass!
|
I wouldn't want to wait any longer than 2-3 hours

With Reflected, we have no control panels. I email support to do EVERYTHING, including setting up email addresses. There isn't a single thing I do myself. Even on virtual accounts, support will usually install a script, but it will cost you. The average I've seen is $25 a pop. |
damn the internet has gone to shit :2 cents:
|
National net just added a domain and set up wordpress for me in 4 mins...

its easy install it yourself :P by the time you put in a ticket most the time you can be done :)
|
Hi everyone!
Brad |
AmeriNOC gets started on anything I ask within a matter of minutes.
|
I host with National Net, and if it takes them more than twenty minutes I'm really surprised. Late at night when I'm working on blogs I'll put in a tick with Nat Net asking them to install a domain and create a DB for WP, and bam - it's all done plus they've installed the most recent version of WP without me asking.
National Net rocks. |
We're on Phatservers so the response is usually within an hour or two. 24 hours a day.
|
i've never asked a hosting company to do script installations for me - is this mostly just Wordpress and scripts that are very commonplace or should I be expecting my hosting company to install almost any kind of script for me?
|
1 hour...
|
if you are a host that cares, then quickly
hosts that care: cavecreek.com nakedhosting.com gotwebhost.com way3.com mojohost.com maybe a few others, but unless it slipped through the cracks, sounds shoddy |
Are you too retarded to install a script yourself?

I emailed support this morning concerning, scripts, databases & mysql set up & within 5 mins I was informed it had all been set up for us & the db path. :2 cents: |

However, I do have to send in a ticket for them to set up the databases as I don't have a control panel to let me do that. The Mojohost techs just do it all at once. Edit: I should say that they have done it all at once with stuff like WordPress, etc. I can't speak of other stuff. However, I do know that they are very helpful to help troubleshoot issues, whether they installed it or not. |
For something simple like Wordpress, I'd expect it done within 2-3 hours at most. If it wasn't done in 24 hours, I'd be upset (unless there were special circumstances).
Phatservers and Naked Hosting have always gotten any requests done within an hour. Even in the middle of the night. |
Nationalnet installs it for me straight away or i do it myself
|
I install all scripts myself ...but I would say 24 hours max.
btw. if you are looking for a reliable hosting -> webair.com. They can do it for you right away.   |
Phatservers gets the job done quickly

Depending of the complexity of the script Webair usually does it for me instantly.
If it's a highly and unusual script that requires some experience with specific platforms to know how to make it run, well, Webair has techs that specialize in different things and they usually get started on those within a day or two. |
