Due Anni in Sicilia (3 pics)

Two years ago yesterday, Crystal and I departed the United States, leaving behind friends, family, and the suffocating police state which always accompanies a welfare/warfare nation. We traded that in for the stifling economic malaise of Sicily, an island which affords people the chance to get a whole lot of nothing done, work wise, but rewards people of low time preference with great food, unique views, litter, 3rd-rate graffiti, and a safe place to raise a family. Life is simply a series of trade-offs.

When we first arrived in Sicily, we lived in Capo D'Orlando. It remains one of my favorite cities on the island.

I took this picture of Capo D'Orlando from the Sanctuario which overlooks it.

If I were going to own a mountain hideaway, it would be in San Marco which has incomparable views. San Marco caps a mountain between Sant'agata and Capo D'Orlando.

Cefalu is a popular tourist attraction. In the Summer of 2008, we ran into a few LSU fans here from back home (New Orleans).

Now we live in Palermo, and next year I want to live in Trapani, and after that I think we'll live on one of the Isole Eolie. This island will remain home, however, until America declares war on us for some trumped up charge or another.

Spunky 03-17-2010 06:13 PM

Looks very beautiful there

tical 03-17-2010 06:15 PM

Was the language barrier difficult to overcome?

HandballJim 03-17-2010 06:45 PM

my dads side is from Ragusa, Sicily. moms side is near Naples. The furthest South I been is Amalfi Coast, almost all of Italy has such natural beauty.

My wife wants to visit Italy in the future but these days you need a tour guide since it is dangerous. I already need to watch my back wear I live now, so when I travel I like to go somewhere safe and relax.

Left the home of the police/welfare/warfare state to settle in the land of child molesting priests and the mafia. Nice pics.

No, not at all. Italian and Spanish are almost identical -- the closest pairing of any of the romance languages (Latin-based). I'm not great with Spanish, but you're exposed to so much of it in the US that you just kind of pick it up -- so learning Italian has been pretty easy.

i'l admit sicily has some amazing beaches which are run and operated by thr mafia and they make sure the beaches are clean to keep clean money coming in from tourism, i know alot of people that from naples leave and go to cefalu each summer, it is a popular place.

but a thing i never liked about sicily as with naples is the people, very rude and obnoxious

CaptainHowdy 03-18-2010 05:29 AM
