"Wal-Mart Stores Inc. officials are reviewing security tapes to try to determine who used a southern New Jersey store's public-address system to tell "all black people" to leave.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday at the Washington Township store, a male voice calmly announced: "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now."

Having grown up in the south and hearing the constant BS that the south is the cradle of racism, here is proof that there are abundant morons in the north as well.

I bet it was a kid who picked the phone thingy up.

That's pretty crazy. I am originally from Washington Township and find it hard to believe this happened there. Probably just some teenager fucking around. :disgust

The north though, in a way, is much more racist than the south. It's not as much about black and white- it's about irish, jews, italians, puerto ricans, germans, etc. Everyone is identified by their ethnicity.

Growing up in an italian household it was rare to hear something negative about someone for being black. Occasionally I would hear the word "moolie", but never heard any negative characteristics about black people.

Irish on the other hand, dear lord, going by what I heard growing up you would think they were the devil. Being half irish you can imagine how confusing that was for me.

If i was in a walmart (god forbid) and I heard over the loud speaker "all white people have to exit the building now!" I wouldn't have time to be outraged or offended because i'd be too busy on the floor laughing my ass off...

After growing up in the north and now living in the south for 3 years I can tell you without a doubt that the bastion of racism is the north... not the south.

Moolie comes from the italian word for eggplant. The actual word in italian is melanzana, but italian americans have a weird way of changing words through generations and it's commonly prounounced "mool-en-yon" today, which also is used in it's fuller form to refer to black people.

It's duragatory. I don't say it and I can't think of anyone in my generation who says it. It's mostly the older generations. When you really dig in there's a whole unique dialect specific to the culture.

I'm convinced reporting the incident on national television will help improve relations between Blacks and non-Blacks in the US.

It's pretext for opportunistic lawyers, journalists and politicians to fill their pockets, they could not care less about the African American community.

Anyway, what I was trying to say in my comments wasn't that italians aren't racist, what I was trying to say is that in some ways they are more racist vs southern whites.

My point with the moolie comments was other than older folks ocasionally uttering a durogatory term for black people they never elaborated on it. I'm not saying that they're right for doing it, I'm saying compared to how negative they are towards other cultures a slur is nothing. They never got down on black people- they never said they hated black people, they never stereotyped black people, etc.

Where I grew up, and where this shit took place, Irish and Italians were WAY harsher on eachother than they ever were towards people of other colors. That's my point.

I am Italian and from New Jersey. And I didnt grow up in white washed Washington Township I grew up next to Newark, Linden and Elizabeth -- where the Italians not only used racial slurs openly, they fought the blacks.

Being from New Jersey there is a definite NORTH and SOUTH.

South New Jersey for me begins right after the Driscoll Bridge which spans over the Raritan river. Southern Jersey people are mostly Eagle fans and Nascar fans. They also drive around in pick-ups with the a confederate flag. They are generally referred to as "pineys" and vote Republican.

Racism down in Southern Jersey is as common as a fat white woman drinking a diet coke.
