These formats OK for a mobile members area?
 

I'm putting together my first mobile members area and am hoping someone can give me some advice for movie formats.

I've read all the threads I can find on GFY and am thinking about offering MP4 480x270 1000kbps and 3GP 480x270 1000kbps. Does that sound OK? Should I have any other formats?

What kind of mp4 formats will you be using?

I'm using just mp4 encoded for IPhone and it's working across the board beautifully for every phone so far. :)

Maybe I don't need to bother with 3GP then :) Do you offer photos and if you do what size are they?

I also just found out that 480x270 is not valid for the H.263 codec. Valid sizes are 128x96, 176x144, 352x288, 704x576, and 1408x1152. But with the movie size I use I would have to have a frame size of 352x198 to keep the correct aspect ratio so I don't know how to work around that problem.

It does the job FAST. Choose the "Iphone and Ipod touch" setting. Save as .mp4 I have my video resolution at 480 x 272 (16:9 aspect) and 360 x 272 for 4:3 aspect

This little piece of software does a tremendous job. You can see the results at http://claudiamarie.mobi/ I did the first few on my PC and then once I had the setting tweaked the way I wanted it, I installed it on my server and whenever I run a new update I have a script that has handbrake running on the server to make the mobile version and toss it on the mobile site.

As far as pictures go...I just use the same exact ones that I use on the "regular" site. The smart phones seem to resize them to fit their windows just fine.

EDIT: The trailers you see are 720 x 400 on the tour. They are the same trailers I use on both the regular and mobile sites.

it does any other popular web formats? i'm doing all formats on my computer but if server side software can do as good a job it would be a big work saver. i just never saw any of these CMS's that do server side transcoding produce the same quality that software like Cleaner and Sorensen gets.
