Only one good answer here IMHO. STEINBERG NUENDO with some great plugins ( Like the waves diamond bundle, stylus RMX 2, etc etc etc )

http://www.cockos.com/reaper/ and some VST Instruments along with a midi keyboard and you are all set. I highly recommend Addictive Drums but EZ Drummer is pretty cool too.

Yeah FLStudio, and I use Acid 4.0 to sequence everything. I like CoolEdit Pro 2.0 as well. I think Adobe bought them so its probably called something different now.

If you're just starting out definitely FL studios. Ive been using it for years and love it. Here's some of my latest so you can get a taste of the quality its capable of. :)
