Are their actually any good sitcoms on these days?

Besides Big Bang Theory , of course :) Is the sitcom dead or are there actually some decent ones still being produced?

Altwebdesign 03-15-2010 04:17 AM

not really, watched on the buses a few weeks ago on UK ITV and god damn it was so funny and risque!
Only funny stuff these days is quiz panels like never kind the buzzcocks, mock the week, have i got news for you.

They dont make them like only fools and horses any more!

Sarah_Jayne 03-15-2010 04:22 AM

Even when they try too...that Green Green Grass thing was just horrid.

Altwebdesign 03-15-2010 04:24 AM

exactly! and also the only fools and horses pre-quel wasnt all that good!

Vendot 03-15-2010 04:25 AM

I cant wait till Omid Djalili does a sitcom....... he's awesome.

Im not sure about that......... Rock & Chips was different but it wasnt supposed to be Only Fools, it was supposed to be a comedy drama, which I reckon it did pretty well. Some of the reviews were actually good.

I went to a taping of TV Burp and the warm up guy is apparently on that prequel. He was the worst stand up I have ever seen - ever.

Donkey Punch 03-15-2010 04:46 AM

I'm here for the situation comedy

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 03-15-2010 04:46 AM

Donkey Punch 03-15-2010 04:47 AM

animated situation comedy

1. Family Guy
B. Futurama

Darrah 03-15-2010 05:35 AM

I cried when Charmed, Angel, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer ended their seasons. :( I watch a few reality shows now but nothing much anymore. Spend most of my time online.

nextri 03-15-2010 05:40 AM

30 rock
modern family
parks and recreation

SpongeBub 03-15-2010 05:46 AM

The best 30 minute comedy that is on the tube these days is on Starz and it is called "Party Down". It's about these guys who work for a party catering service and since it takes place in LA, they are all wannabe actors. Freakin' hilarious, with a nice little love story as well. The new season starts on April 23rd and I cannot wait. If you haven't yet seen this show, rent the first season on DVD, grab some popcorn, sit down and get ready to laugh. :thumbsup

candyflip 03-15-2010 05:57 AM

Community and Modern Family are two new ones that are pretty good.

rogueteens 03-15-2010 07:12 AM

i never really got into Big Bang Theory - maybe because I only saw the dubbed german version

but from all sitcoms I have seen (quite a lot), I must say that "Two and half Men" is by far the best ever

Agreed that it is brilliant but there haven't been new ones in ages. I have been going to a lot of radio and tv show tapings lately and David Mitchell has been a host in many of them. No matter how funny he is on shows he is much funnier inbetween takes. I have him down as one of the comics of his generation.

Realgfs 03-15-2010 07:35 AM

Just went through all 5 seasons of How I Met Your Mother.. I liked it! Check it out

I have a few friends who rave about It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia being funnier than anything else on TV right now.

I haven't see a single episode.

JC Maldini 03-15-2010 08:18 AM

I love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia...great show...great cast:

http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/sunny/

Other than that...not really much else out there.

J. Falcon 03-15-2010 08:27 AM

I really like Big Bang Theory.

Altwebdesign 03-15-2010 08:30 AM

the inbetweeners in the UK, thats pretty good :D

deserv 03-15-2010 08:43 AM

If you like good dark weird comedy I suggest you try out Archer - Adult animated feature about an a secret agent with cursing and foul language. I find it pretty good :)

and if you like gaming by any chance, I suggest you try Pure Pwnage.

Pure Pwnage originally started off as a webseries but now they landed a contract for a TV series to be aired on Showcase in Canada. If you want to watch the webseries, you can watch them freely online @ www.purepwnage.com

Roseanne is still in reruns and I can watch each of those episodes a million times. It did get lame when Dan had his heart attack. It's sad when great sitcoms end on bad notes.

Today, NBC on Thursdays makes me happy (The Office, 30 Rock, Community).

One new reality show that I really like is Kelly Cutrone's "Kell on Earth." I like her hard exterior and soft interior.

Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory

EscortBiz 03-15-2010 09:52 AM

i watch lots of old ones, coupling is one i watch in these days again

Peaches 03-15-2010 10:15 AM

I pretty much stopped watching sitcoms but have started again with 30 Rock, The Office, The Middle and Modern Family. I went back and watched old episodes of Two and a Half Men just because I wanted to see why Sheen was making so much ;) and have to admit I really like it too.

Parks and Recreation and Community are OK but I like the others a lot better.

andrej_NDC 03-15-2010 10:41 AM

30 rock, 2 and a half men, how i met your mother...all great

Sarah_Jayne 03-15-2010 10:54 AM

I don't really get the success of Two and a Half Men. Being a John Hughes fan, I like what goes into it, but it always feels a bit flat to me.

I think only guys can enjoy 2 and a half men, its not really for women. :)

Neither is porn but yet I have managed :) It isn't that I don't "get" it as much as I don't get why people think it is fresh. Even their delivery of lines feels stale to me.

Its all about Charlie and how men envy his lifestyle. :)

I love it - but I was raised by a man :winkwink:

I think the writing is quick and the characters are allowed to really exploit their stereotypes - bitchy ex wife, crazy stalker neighbor, beefy maid, henpecked ex husband, wild bachelor. And I have to say the kid is an excellent actor.

Seriously? Most people I know here think it is the worst of the worst. It was okay until the older son left (to do British Telecom adverts, pretty much) but every time I catch a bit they have new family members. Which, again, is a shame because the actors are good actors it is just a flimsy show.

British comedy at its finest is stuff like Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, The Young Ones....in my view, anyway.

Sarah_Jayne 03-15-2010 12:02 PM

Outnumbered ...was one recent British sitcom I did like.

pornguy 03-15-2010 12:06 PM

I get to watch from time to time BigBang, Friends ( I know it was canceled ) and also Two and a Half Men.

How to ruin Two and a Half Men (and most U.S. sitcoms). Watch it and look out for the laughter track, its massively overused and you can see the actors stopping and waiting between each gag, mentally guessing when the laughter track should end before acting again. There, thats that show ruined for you all! :D

Also sarah_maxcash, you are in the uk arn't you? pop down to hmv and pick up the box sets of some of the more obsure uk sitcoms like nightingales, citizen smith, operation good guys, the goodies and the detectives
