Got my new lens (pics)

You may have read a while back that I was looking for a multi purpose lens for my Rebel. Whenever I had the 18-55 on I wish I had the 55-250 zoom, and vice versa. Well, I got my wish. A Sigma zoom super wide angle 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) lens for my Canon Rebel Digital EOS arrived today.

It is a little heavier than the 55-250 zoom lens Canon has, but it is about the same length as the 18-55. I immediately started practicing with it, and really like it . . . a lot.

Here are a couple practice pics.

Thank you. BTW, goodgirl was mentioning last night that I should ask you for the name of that cleaner you mentioned. You can use it on guns as well as lenses. You mentioned it when we went to the Valley of Fire.

Guns as well as lenses?

Nope.

I said I bought it at a gun show though.

I don't recall the name off hand but I will pull it out of my bag later and send you an ICQ.

LOL

Fo sho.

Smearing gritty mud on them will also help prolong lens life. :2 cents:

Nice lens. I am wishing for my 24-70 f2.8 lens....soooon :winkwink:

Raf1 03-11-2010 11:40 AM

it's quite nice even though the range is so large. I had it for some tests a while ago.

candyflip 03-11-2010 12:13 PM

I just picked up the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC, which seems to be pretty similar to the Sigma.

Great shots.

Nice pics :thumbsup

How do you like that sigma lens? I've read reviews on it before, seems to be an affordable lens with a nice range. Do you notice anything at the extreme edges of the range?

I have only taken a couple hundred pics with it so far, so can't really comment on that. I know there had been reviews that the weight cause the zoom to go in or out when shooting something that was straight up or straight down, but they seem to have resolved that issue.

So far, I really like it. Looking forward to using it at the Phoenix Forum and then on the road trip we are taking after the show. I will have several thousand pics by then and can give more feedback.
