A shotgun blast to the chest would have come with a ton of blood, plus he wouldn't have been able to turn away.. he would have been flung back straight. That was a bean bag or something.

Ok, now step back for a second and look at it from the cop's perspective. Some guy just walked up on him from behind and to the left with something either in or covering his right hand. The first thing I would do in that situation if I were him would be shoot, especially considering the fact that it looks like a riot situation. :2 cents:

It was likely a riot gun not a real gun and the cop was reacting to the shove. Tricky situation, my original feeling is you just don't walk up to someone with a gun period end of story, i have a hard time saying "he deserved it" though.
