Static IP for routers?
 

I need to get a static IP address at my house, but Verizon wants to bend me over for the cost.

Right now because of a huge fuckup on their part, I get 6 months of their 25/20 line for 1/2 off, I'm only at month #2 now, but in order for me to get a static IP, I need to get a biz line and I loose the discount on the internet AND TV, which would basically double my bill each month, if not more.

I was looking around for a few solutions, but im sure there is someone else who has done this before. I read you can order an IP from these companies then just change your DNS settings, but i have no clue and they have no support.

Why do I need the static IP? because a client that I have, they only whitelist IP addresses to access their server to pull reports and stats from. Also, when Im on the road, would be nice to access my NAS drive that has files instead of always having to back it up to a portable HDD drive.

The whitelist by ip is one thing. you can access your nas without the static with any remote software like gotomypc.

Just bounce it through one of your servers. Have your client whitelist your server IP.

comcast triple play, static IP's are normally $7 more per month

I think with Qwest its $10/month per static IP.

If you can get at&t dsl, static ip's are free

Unless you get booted off periodically your IP would probably only change whenever there's a power or street outage. Paying extra for a static IP just means it NEVER changes, rather than changes a few times a year...

I have Verizon FiOS and its absurd what they want for a line. Because they have some box that connects where the copper wire comes in, Comcast and DSL cant provide service... I guess its a way for Verizon to lock everyone out :1orglaugh

My IP resets about once a week, its a pain in the ass. I wouldnt mind spending a few bucks to get this setup right, but I need a way to have a static IP address for my home line to connect to this remote server

not exactly sure how this works, but i would need to connect first to my web server who will connect into their server?
