Diners go nuts for squirrel pie
Pub customers in York are going nuts for their local pub's latest special - squirrel pie and mash.
http://www.ananova.com/images/web/1572201.jpg Andy and Stephanie Cross, of the Black Swan, were already keen on serving game, reports the York Press. Rabbit, pigeon and hare were already on the menu - and now they have been joined by squirrel. "It has had a great response - people were calling especially to see if we had it on," said Mr Cross. "It tastes like a strong rabbit - just a more meaty taste." Mr Cross said it was his wife who came up with the idea: "She read something about it and then unearthed some recipes," he added. The squirrel pie was put on the specials menu and proved so popular that the pub has run out and is now waiting for more supplies. The grey squirrels come from butchers who are supplied by gamekeepers who trap grey squirrels to try to protect Britain's declining native red squirrels. ewwwwwww :helpme |

Maybe the recipe had been buried for a reason, lol. Nah, I guess whatever people want. People eat squab all the time without knowing it's just pigeon, right? |
Hmmm....now if they would like Rat pie, I think we could kill two birds with one stone...

My grandmother use to fry squirrel meat in a frying pan just like you do chicken with flour on it. It is not bad, but then again anything fried is usually ok ;-) ...
