Use a captcha script.

cardinalvices 03-05-2010 07:48 AM

It'll stop most spambots cold.

This one is fantastic and the use of it to transcribe books in the background is pretty cool too

BIGTYMER 03-05-2010 09:03 AM

Or just remove the submit form. :)

alexchechs 03-05-2010 09:14 AM

captcha works for us...

BestXXXPorn 03-05-2010 09:41 AM

A better way than CAPTCHA (because CAPTCHA is a pain in the ass for non fraudulent users) is to use some sort of rate limiting...

Store a session variable that's a hash of submit times... Once the count of the hash is greater than X amount, stop processing the form and give them a warning (or don't and let them spam away but don't process them)...

Rather than punishing the real users with a CAPTCHA :P

best and simple advice

Renaming the form, will temporarily stop the spam. But it's only a matter of time before you start getting spam through the new form too, thus forcing you to rename it again. Recaptcha will defeat most automated form submitters, but does add a barrier to legitimate users.

You could get the best of both worlds, by getting a script that renames your form for you throughout the day. It's a bit cheesy, but it should do the trick.
