===========================================
The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on ?fear? of President Barack Obama and a promise to "save the country from trending toward socialism."

The strategy was detailed in a confidential party fundraising presentation, obtained by POLITICO, which also outlines how ?ego-driven? wealthy donors can be tapped with offers of access and ?tchochkes.?

The presentation was delivered by RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart to top donors and fundraisers at a party retreat in Boca Grande, Florida on February 18, a source at the gathering said.

In neat PowerPoint pages, it lifts the curtain on the often-cynical terms of political marketing, displaying an air of disdain for the party?s donors that is usually confined to the barroom conversations of political operatives.

The presentation explains the Republican fundraising in simple terms.

"What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate...?" it asks.

The answer: "Save the country from trending toward Socialism!?

Manipulating donors with crude caricatures and playing on their fears is hardly unique to Republicans or to the RNC ? Democrats raised millions off George W. Bush in similar terms ? but rarely is it practiced in such cartoonish terms.

I wonder what the people that swore this fine country wouldn't make it through a year of Barrack Obama have changed their predictions to...

kane 03-04-2010 01:32 PM

You have to hand it to them. The republicans have a way of convincing he same people to vote for them over and over again even though they never actually do what they say. Whenever they are not in power they talk about how they need to be elected so that they can shrink the size of the government, cut taxes and reduce the deficit while spending money wisely.

Of course they don't do that. They grow the size of the government, spend money like crazy and increase the deficit. They did cut taxes under Bush, but it was primarily a tax cut for the rich so I'm guess about 95% of their voters really didn't see much of a difference.

TheSenator 03-04-2010 01:45 PM

From a marketing point of view, the RNC definitely exploit the stupid(visceral people).

Tom_PM 03-04-2010 01:57 PM

It's because they learned how to target the religious people. Blind faith is a valuable trait when you are a politician.

Where are all the Republicans who used to defend BUSH?

burntfilm 03-04-2010 06:50 PM

haha - Sadly their exploitation of ignorant bastards through staged events and less than subtle media word association games has actually had an effect on approval ratings and helped stall any movement on health care.

Brujah 03-04-2010 06:52 PM

Don't be fooled into thinking the DNC doesn't do the same thing.

Porn Grounds 03-04-2010 06:54 PM

WTF's a Mavrik?

GatorB 03-04-2010 06:57 PM

What's funny those same documents basically call the their own biggest donors morons. I think if I was a larger donor to the GOP I would stop. Of course they won't because as the GOP noted they are indeed morons that won't realize they are being insulted.

Yup, and the plan to twist the brains of the 5th stanine actually works, they have poor people giving them money so they won't get healthcare under the general guise of "Taxes related stuff" Fucking brilliant really.:1orglaugh

Proof both sides are progressive scum

Yep. The one things the republicans do well is fall in lock step and recite the party mantra. Once the direction is decided they go full force. These were people who bashed McCain early on in the primaries during the election then when he wins the nomination they couldn't stop saying the word maverick. From the chairman down to the smallest pundit they all follow the lead. The democrats are more like herding cats. They are all over the place and can't get their shit in line for more than a few minutes at a time.

Well if Bush had 8 years to fuck everything up it's not really fair to give Obama only 1 year to fix everything.

And actually the economy is getting better. Maybe it's bad for you because you're incompetant. I hear Burger King is hiring.

JC Maldini 03-05-2010 06:53 AM

Same 2 parties....same 1 master.

They both wants wars
They both expand gov
They both run up national debt
They both expand the patriot act

There is no difference between the 2 parties.

1. Why blame Bush for everything and give Congress a free pass?

The economy still sucks. Job losses are staggering.

CNN: "5.1 million jobs have now been lost since the beginning of 2008." (April 2009).

WSJ: "2009 Job Losses Could Hit 2 Million."

2. Nice try, but your ad hominem attack shows you know nothing about me.

It's not like the democrats actually do what they say either. If they hadn't sold out to the health industry Obama could have got the public option in at will with an up and down vote after stripping Leiberman of any responsibilities and threatening the Blue Dogs. He'd just have to let the half dozen democrats with the most conservative electorates vote against it to remain politically viable and crush any other opposition and he could have done it. The public option (in and of itself) is such a mild and sound policy it truly wouldn't have been hard to sell it or at least craft a version that was simple and effective enough to sell. It's still so manifestly right wing compared to every other first world country. They're basically displaying calculated incompetence. If they don't at least have medicare buy-in in the final bill they deserve to be permanently out of power.

The idea of having a two party system should at the very least ensure that the base of either party can at least fool themselves into thinking there is progress being made in their general direction. The illusion stops working when they are functionally identical. At least Bush actually gave tax cuts..

For sure I don't give the democrats a pass in any way. To me the difference is this: The republicans decide how they are going to fuck the people over then they carry it out as one well oiled machine. The democrats are spineless and so afraid of getting any kind of negative vibe they do nothing.

John Stewart put it perfectly when he bashed the democrats who basically shit their pants when one republican won a seat in the senate and took away the 20 seat majority. He said(and I'm probably not exact with this), "Okay, so now you only have a 19 seat majority. That beats the hell out of the 4 to 6 person majorities that Bush had in his frist 6 years in office when he did pretty much whatever the fuck he wanted."

Pretty old tactic, scare people, nothing new, but it worked to get Bush in a second term.

Kinda easy to scare people when in one day, the news says

Loss of ONLY 36,000 jobs is a good thing?
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010...y-really-good/

Obama's budget is off a little bit, 1.2 Trillion
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010...coming-decade/

And unpopular pressure is finally starting be seen by those in charge
http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/03/...ial/index.html

And the President is pushing the government taking over the medical system

discussions like this are what is ruining America, the liberals spend all their effort blaming the conservatives and vice versa, little do you know that both parties are fucking us, the common man in the ass without lube on a daily basis.

I'm going to let you all in a secrete, neither the democratic party or the republican party gives two shits about anyone on this forum, all they care about is lining their pockets and getting re elected. If you look at any congressman or senators calendar, they spend more time in a year raising money for re election then actual legislative work. Now some might say the less they do in DC the better off we are but to me it says these crooks need to kicked out of office.

The citizens of this country need to wake the fuck up

A man should be concerned with his own personal debt. The national debt is not as important.

How many of you have a mortgage? That's called being in debt for a long long time.

LiveDose 03-06-2010 01:24 AM

I'm not saying things are good. Although, things are much better now than they were in the past year and a half..anyways, lets just pretend things are amazing right now, Obama totally turned the world around and everyone loves each other and makes a million dollars a year...people like DaddyHalBucks would still find something to complain about insisting that "his team" would do a better job.

cykoe6 03-07-2010 01:31 PM

All Republicans and conservatives are evil, stupid, stupid, thuggish, brainwashed, sheep........ all Democrats and progressives are highly educated, open minded, logical, compassionate, true Americans........ blah blah blah..........

I really think TheSenator needs a software upgrade for his bot. :2 cents:

The president needs to focus on jobs, not health care. The only jobs the health care bill will create is all the government that's in charge of it, adding the the cost of health care.

Back to the thread title, if that's what the GOP has for an internal message
I wonder what the one for the dems are? PANIC?

How many times do you need to see plain evidence of this before you realize it's the truth? Even the repub politicians think of their 'constituents' as nothing but hysterical reactionaries to be manipulated and used. It's in black and white lol.... but of course nothing will make an impression on you tea baggers because, well, you're hysterical reactionaries and not rational to begin with.
