Question for designers...
 

I'm working with a partner on a mainstream project and we hired two designers already to come up with a single page design (where we will just fill in the content) and a logo for a new site we are launching.

However, both designs were horrible and we have no use for them at all. Rather than trying to hire someone else, we are looking to have a "design content" and pay between $500 and $1,000 for the best design (votes will take place in house and between 12 and 15 people).

My question... as a designer, would you be willing to put something together (as an image) to submit? Then if we choose your design, you can elect to work on any modifications that we want to the design?

Worth a shot. Won't cost you anything and as long as you can reject any entry, it's a win-win for you even if you don't like any of the entries :)
So I say go for it.

None of the triple A designers will enter. But that doesn't mean you wont get what you're looking for ... so go for it. It could end up being how you find what you need.

I don't have the time to do any work in a contest. But if you're looking for a designer I'm always around.

I don't think someone would spend their quality time to design a site with a chance of never getting paid. Yet alone rejected on their work.

Its not such a bad idea. I know myself I wouldnt design anything or spend my time if I knew there was at least some money involved.

the site you used as an example is a skin of www.apple.com , look at the header buttons - if you're looking for a similar site you may want to do as they did and use that as your starting point.

If you like that design, why not just use Template Tuning, which is another service of Template Monster. They will make any modifications you want to the base template ... I've seen sites where they make them look 100% unique based on the original design.

$500-1k is just a right price for what you are looking for. I'd advise looking thru the folios of those designers you are looking for. In short if you waned to save 2 times, read me right, don't you think that now you need someone reliable?

thats the negative thing I proposed. the problem is trying to find someone who is creative enough to do something out of the box. the other two people we hired completely failed to do what we asked and when we said no, this isnt what we want, they blew up on us about it.

This is a great site. It's pretty much for logos, but you might be able to get the whole design done as well.

IMO contest might not be a good thing for this. As you must choose from the entries submitted even if you don't like one.. Just my :2 cents: though.
