if Dirty D was using 2257safe then all this would have been such a smaller impact... the feds would have contacted 2257safe for the ID's, they would be dealing directly with lawyers from day 1, instead they raped Dirty D's offices, assets, etc.

For the small amount that 2257safe charges, everyone should be signing up to protect themselves... its worth it to ensure your business and your personal safety.

Since when were the feds involved? I read that it was the local or county sheriff's office.

It wouldn?t have made a difference it was the local cops and state cops in Florida enforcing state laws not the feds. The process would have been exactly the same if he had 2257safe.

However, if his address for his custodian of records was located in our law office in Woodland Hills, CA I do think there would have been a different outcome.

Ok, here's my unsolicited 2 cents.

This was never a 2257 issue as they (The cops, FEDs or Local. don't care what kind of cops they is!!!) already knew the girl was under age. They came looking for her tape and any other proof of underage filming of her and other minors. 2257 safe or any other off site 2257 service wouldn't have helped or stopped anything. Period.

I also asked the question years ago to Larry Walters at a panel at Inetrnext if keeping 2257 documentation at a lawyers was the best way to handle this 2257 record keeping. He stated to the crowd of webmasters that was there (Not a direct quote) that he wasn't sure as the law reads as they must be kept at the primary place of business. At the time he didn't recommend keeping 2257 docs at a lawyers office. I don't know if this has changed.

That is not necessarily true. If the feds want to they would just sieze the records from you and also if and when they want to they can sieze the data from his servers at anytime your service can not actually stop the feds in any way shape oor form. It is absolutely low down, low class business for you to be trying to pray of this DietyD guys problems. :2 cents:

There still would be some lead time to assist the customer on what he should do once the information is handed over.

The insurance question posted above is a good one. I mean if the FEDs show up at your door to check your clients 2257 records and you aren't there between 9 - 5 (working hours) 'cause you went to lunch or you tell them to get a warrant, when they don't need one according to the 2257 laws.

Are your clients insured and are their legal bills paid for so they don't do 5 years in prison for non compliance?

I think you don't understand the services KB is providing. 2257Safe doesn't protect you against crimes you commit, it protects you from the hassle of complying with the rigid 2257 requirements that require you maintain certain office hours and cross your T's and dot your I's with cross-reference databases and the like.

While 2257Safe may protect you against a simple records keeping violation, this isn't a case of a simple records keeping violation. It's a case of willful violation of the law... not a situation where there was some inconvenience and he wasn't in the office on the day they came to check out his records.

2257Safe wouldn't have protected him against anything in this circumstance.
