TWO Russian men died in a sauna after jumping into a plunge pool that had accidentally been heated to boiling point, investigators and media said.

The two men jumped into the pool to cool down after sweating in a steam room.

A third man tried to save the victims but was unable to pull the men out of the boiling water, Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid reported today.

The two men's bodies were discovered in the sauna in the city of Kirov in central Russia on February 18 and "their death was caused by overheating", the Kirov regional investigative committee confirmed in a statement.

The water in the pool was "overheated due to an error by one of the victims," investigators said.

Saunas usually include a cold plunge pool.

The men were named by investigators as the director of an old people's home and the director of a residential home for people with psychiatric problems.

story seems strange , cold plunge pools arent made to be heated , and certainly not hot enough to boil you alive. Must be used as both a cold plunge pool and a hottub or something .

Must be some kind of home built heating system. I don't think a professional one would have the ability to heat a pool to the point of boiling.

Well many of those, especially in russia I imagine, are heated with a fire below or on the side, so... Still totally fucked up though.

most pools have heaters. what i dont understand is how they were stupid enough to not see the steam coming off the top. i mean a hot tub has tons of steam coming out and thats not even boiling point.

think its was some sort of plunge pool/jacuzzi type of thing. under some OZ man probably turned wrong faucet to full or it was a setup

not to mention how hard it would be to heat up a pool. i mean how big is this pool? an olympic pool holds 600,000 gallons of water. it takes me 5-10 minutes just to heat up a pot with water to boil some noodles. i couldnt imagine a pool heater being sufficient enough to heat an entire pool to boiling.

I was half expecting to see pics accompanying the story :)
