For those of you born 1920-1979 (How accurate is this?)

I'm right in there and this is written as if it was written about me.
So true, I'm sure most of us can relate.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while
    they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and
    didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby
cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and
when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks
    we took hitchhiking.
As infants &children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster
seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a speci al treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and?NOONE
    actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made
with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
    WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we
were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And?we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride
down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running
into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, N intendo's, X-boxes, no video games at
all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no
surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no
    Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
    lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from di rt, and the worms did not live
    in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with
sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we
did not poke out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or
rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who
didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard
of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem
    solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!

When the school bell rang at 3:15 we all stormed out like ants and either walked, road bikes or took buses home. No one had their mommy waiting in a car for them.

Yup, we sure did. I remember all our mini bikes, go-carts, my brother and sister made.
Our first real motorized go-cart we were so excited to build, but when it was almost done we needed a $20.00 part from the lawn mower shop but nobody could come up with the money, (You can only mow so many lawns at $3.00 a pop) So I mounted the shaft straight on the rear tire so when you started it, it would take off. The only bad part was it was turning it backwards.

I had the ten speed break handles on it as my gas pedal. We were so excited we drove it all day backwords.

                    Man, the good ol' days.

We had computers when I was a kid - however the games we played we first had to program ourself from pages of code found in paper magazines.

But rest is pretty spot on

We had Atari, we used to buy the broken ones and fix them and sell them through the Recycler. I think they were going like hot cakes for $15 bucks a shot.

I remember when I figured out how to take the limiter off of my Go-Kart
                                    I thought that I was going 100mph
I turned sharp and threw my sister off of the thing and I saw that she landed 20' away standing, like a cat
                                    So I tried again
                                    Just kidding

down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.

After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live
                                      in us forever.

Sadly, today's generation of children are just entitled little brats... I honestly think a good world war will knock some sense into them... conscript them all dammit.

We had european computers - like the Sinclair ZX80, then later the C64, Amiga, and PCs

                                                    Very accurate.

I had total free run. Whatever the fuck i wanted to do i pretty much did. (with repercussions i might add)

I was total single parent latchkey kid by the third grade. (before that term was even coined)

Things were so different back then.

Mom even dressed me up as a pack of cigarettes for a school Halloween contest. lol

Why did they all grow up to be so greedy, anal, over-cautious, emo drama queens about every little thing for their children then?

We invented sophisticated alarm systems to keep uninvited guests off our property.

I got a ticket when I had my then step son in the back moving some furniture two blocks, the CHP officer starting telling me I had to be more responsible, I told him to fuck off and get back on his jap bike.

Then he started looking closer at my truck, I just sat there till he left and stared at him.

Whats scary is that we got over 4k new laws this year and not knowing the law is not an excuse? Does anyone know all the laws?
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

We all did drugs in high school, and I don't know of one friend who over dosed or died in high school. I had two friends, one in middle school and one in high school, who died in car accidents, but nothing to do with drugs.

Everything in that post was exactly me. I made go carts. I made unstable tree forts as high as I could go up a tree. I would hate to have grown up now. The only thing that makes me want to be younger is seeing how far we have come in exploring the cosmos. I would love to see what we learn 100 years after I'm gone, shit longer if I could. haha

As much as technology is good I think it has bad effects as you can now order groceries and have them delivered, pay bills online etc... so not as much motivation to get out and be active.

After we walked home from school we had to clean our shoes help with the housework and do homework(yes we used to lie to my mom about not having any homework) after all that we were allowed to go out If we disobeyed my mom she would put a cain across the back of our legs. I miss those days they were hard but good fun at the same time and I love my parents for teaching me disapline.

We invented sophisticated alarm systems to keep uninvited guests off our property.

We also invented the car seats and booster seats, along with the laws that forces every one else to make use of them.

Yes we are the best risk-takers ever in history, but when it comes down to risking our own children walk home from school along side with some friends, we don't wanna take any chances.
There is a lot more blame to go around than we made some electrical gadgets. The word family is almost as bad as saying fuck, to people today. I think the missing link is FATHERS. There are not enough fathers in these kids? lives, to toughen them up. Dad's are who make them tough, and make them play, because men play in the dirt.haha And I do not in any way put that all on men, there are more women today using kids as a trap for a boy they like. And don't tell me that isn't happening. There are, by far, way more young women getting knocked up today than there were during our generation, and the generations mentioned in this thread.

It's funny, there are more awesome contraceptives today, than we had back then. Condoms that make it feel better, birth control pills that make girls only have a period 4 times a year, or not period at all, and yet today more and more kids are being born and supported by one parent. I am not saying people need to be married, I am talking about one parent is just GONE...in our generation that was not happening like it is today. It happened, but not like it was today.

Kids today are robbed of that.

I would love to see what we learn 100 years after I'm gone, shit longer if I could. haha

I've had friends die in cars as passengers but never on a Bike. Go Figure. When it's your time, it's your time. I've been riding every since.
