How many WP installations can a server handle?
How many word press installations would you say is a limit for a normal dedicated server? I am not sure about the specifications of the server but it is a mulitcore CPU with a 4GB of RAM.
I want to install as many WP?s as possible but I am not sure how much a single server can handle. Can a single server handle say 100 databases before it starts to affect the performance? Any server admins that can answer me this? |
to the top :winkwink:

surely it would be to do with the traffic each WP site is getting, not how many install you can have.
I mean you can probably have 1 million installs if none of them get any hits and you might only be able to have one install if you get 100,000 hits a day. |
How long is a piece of string ?

You can install as many as you wish until you have filled the disk. There's no reason even the lowest-end server can't accommodate thousands of installations.
Are you planning on anyone using these blogs? I'm no expert but I am pretty sure that the issue is server resources being used by people accessing the blogs. Theoretically a single high traffic blog can cripple your server. Since you made no mention of traffic I can only assume that this won't be an issue. |

There is no answer to your question..A WP install with thousands of entries and a lot of plug-ins is a lot more server extensive than just a basic one with a couple dozen entries, (given that both receive the same amount of traffic). |
I am not really sure why but the part about traffic somehow disappeared from my original post. Crazy shit?
Anyway, these are low traffic blogs with maximum of 1k visitors per blog with about 200 entries per blog. Can a single server handle 100 of these blogs? Or maybe even 200? I would use WPMU but it doesn?t really work for what I have in mind. It has to be regular WP installs and I have never had more than 20 installs on one single server... |

as many as you can mount sql database servers
|
Sounds like you need blogs organizer or at the very least WPMU.
