Anyone here own a Savannah or Bengal Cat?

I want one of these cats. Freaking awesome!

As much as I want a dog, I'm not always around to take care of them.

So, what's next best. A cat that thinks it's a dog?

In terms of loyalty and companionship, you couldn't ask for a better cat. Unlike your average domestic cat, which can be somewhat aloof and fickle, Bengals are extremely people oriented and love to be showered with attention. Actually, if they had it their way they'd have one hundred percent of your attention twenty four hours a day. Basically they just love the human interaction and will happily spend all day following your every move.

Bengal cats come equipped with plenty of energy to burn. If you're looking for a cat who is content to spend it's days lounging and napping in a favorite chair, a Bengal likely isn't for you. They are a whirlwind of activity, with no happy medium. It's either all out or nothing at all. Fun comes by way of recklessly tearing through the house, climbing doors and cupboards, leaping to just about any height, until every ounce of energy is spent and there's nothing left but sheer exhaustion. At this point they become extremely cuddly, purring wildly and relentlessly nuzzling, before falling fast asleep.

Their intelligence can't be over stated. They are quick and eager to learn just about anything. It's not uncommon for them to be trained to enjoy a walk outdoors, on a leash. Tricks and behaviors can be taught and mastered with ease. Playing fetch and retrieving is another activity they enjoy. If there's such a thing as a dog in cats clothing, the Bengal is it, except a Bengal is a lot more independent than any dog.

i know someone that does ... things are nuts.

walked through his condo late at night in the dark, thing stalked me and pounced my ankle, scared the shit out of me.

I had a Bengal Cat for a few years then the X got it. This cat loved the water. I would put 5" of water in the tub with a few gold fish and the cat would get in hunting mode and slowly get in the tub, watch the goldfish, then attack over and over till he killed all the fish.

Someday I would like to get a Savannah. There think more wild looking.

lol.

An uncanny love for water is a trademark characteristic. It can most likely be attributed to their wild ancestry. In the wild, the Asian Leopard Cat swishes it's paw across the surface of the water to clear debris before drinking. You will find a Bengal happily mimicking this behavior in the toilette, bathtub, a sink full of dishes, and unfortunately your aquarium full of tropical fish. Some Bengals may even insist on joining you in the shower.

I had a Bengal kitten once, some fucking asshole stole her when I let her outside for a few mins. one night.

Spunky 02-23-2010 10:24 PM

Awesome looking cats, they are huge,I wonder how they are with other domestic cats and dogs

Jon Oso 02-23-2010 11:21 PM

I've been looking into them for the past few years I just don't have a big enough place for one. They're expensive but seemingly worth the money if you're a cat lover. They need a TON of attention though, just like a dog or else they act up.

I'd prefer an f1 or f2 due to size but I think an f2 would be a better match because the F1 sounds a little too wild for how laid back I am.

Ditto.

I loved that cat. So much energy and personality. If I ever bought another one, it would be a Bengal.

That's what my kitty does, he will go after those hair ties like crazy. I can play fetch with him for hours. They act soo much like a dog and are very obedient.

seeric 02-24-2010 04:20 PM

there are tons of videos of them on youtube playing fetch

these cats have energy like no other.

the one i'm getting is 1800.00 (hopefully) she's a F4

I want one but I am unsure how my tuxedo will get along with a new cat. He's a BIG cat with a very big personality so I am afraid they may hate each other.

seeric 10-07-2010 02:39 PM

We ended up rescuing two egyptian maus from a kitty rescue. I didn't feel right shelling out 1400 bucks when a kitty or two that needs a home sat alone in a shelter.

They're rad. So much fun.

_Richard_ 10-07-2010 02:53 PM

these cats are really cool

docputer 10-07-2010 03:12 PM

I had a neighbor that had two. One he got from a good breeder, and it was a fine animal. It was very friendly, and was more outgoing than most cats. His disposition reminded me more of a dog than cat.
The only real problem with him was if another cat was in his yard, he freaked out. He tore down a couple sets of wood blinds trying to get at a cat that wandered the neighborhood.

The other he got from a shady breeder for a couple hundred bucks. That poor cat, I don't know if it was inbred or what, but it was allergic to almost everything, and he spent more time at the vet than anything. He may of paid a couple hundred for that cat, but the vet bills were in the thousands.

Jim_Gunn 10-07-2010 03:16 PM

Those cats are beautiful but there are so many tabby cats of all kinds in need of a home in shelters for free. My domestic shorthair is very people friendly and really likes interacting with me so I am very happy!

DWB 10-07-2010 03:19 PM

I had one many years ago. She had so much personality... I just fell in love with her. Got her as a gift for someone and ended up keeping her.

rogueteens 10-07-2010 03:19 PM

Elli 10-07-2010 03:20 PM

Got a friend who has them. Wild-assed kitties! They are also considered to be exotic animals and therefore illegal in many areas in the USA, so watch it!

Our Egyptian Maus that we got are half tabby. They are so much fun. That is why we didn't go spend 3-4 grand on exotic cats, which are in fact legal where we live.

:thumbsup

Rescue is the way to go.
