Is this the end of yahoo
News organizations around the world are reporting that both the European Union and the U.S. Department of Justice have approved the Microsoft-Yahoo! search-advertising deal.
That will most likely prove to be the undoing of the Yahoo! search brand. History teaches us that when search brands lose their uniqueness people abandon them quickly. Yahoo!?s worst business decision ever was to install Carol Bartz as CEO. Since she took the helm of the troubled search company, she has closed down or sold off many of Yahoo!?s non-search assets. The clear signal here is that Yahoo! leadership has no intention of being involved in search except as a secondary player like AOL or other ?content providers? that add someone else?s search index and algorithms as an after-thought. Sure, AOL adjusts the Google search results and actually does a better job of filtering mature content from those results than Google, but the fact of the matter is that AOL just doesn?t appeal to the general market as a search engine. According to some media reports, most of AOL?s search users come from its dying ISP business customer base. Full story here http://www.seo-theory.com/2010/02/18...-yahoo-search/ |
Agree with you to some degree.
Yahoo has been selling off many of it's assets over the years, supposedly, to focus on core business. But then their decisions seem to keep torpedoing their 'core business', so it would appear they have no clear idea of what they are doing long term. Beyond trying to get a better stock price maybe. It's really kind of sad. I used to use Yahoo IM and listen to their music all day long. Paid for the subscription to the player (sold). I would watch launchcast (sold). I would play in Yahoo Chat rooms a lot (porn bot hell, junk). I used their mail as my main, not home based, email provider (now crap) I used to actually take the time to check their SERPS on my sites, and work on tailoring the rankings for them. Now..... :disgust |
I get a lot of visitors from yahoo, now this bitch is going to take it down?

Yahoo has been dead for quite a while... It has zero momentum. I think this is just some of its last kicks while in its death throes.

Huge mistake on their part

Almost everything they had, or was in development they've sold or dropped. I can't think of anything they really still have as an true, relevant today, asset. Beyond brand recognition? |
Its a shame cause I do have a lot of backlinks from Yahoo on some of my sites but I guess its the sign of the times..

don't know if i fully agree about your cut and paste. time will tell.

Yet Another Hierarchically Organized Oracle
they had their day, it's just a matter of time now. |
Yahoo has been badly managed for a long while, but they really screwed up a couple years ago: "On November 20, 2008, almost 10 months after Microsoft's initial offer of $33 per share, Yahoo's stock (YHOO) dropped to a 52-week low, trading at only $8.94 per share." Morons.

Yahoo has been fucking up for a while now.
Killing off paid inclusion was the stupidest decision they could have made, it hurt them and their clients. Google has more traffic, but yahoo offers a unique channel of older, less web savvy surfers. You know, the kind of people who typically whip out credit cards ;) Goog will always do more sales volume, but YHO has always been more profitable. Sucks to see those days ending. |
Yahoo was sic and so was overture back in the day, what a bunch of losers they became. Stupid moves by yahoo.

A lot of people still use their developer tools. That's the only thing I can think of with the yahoo moniker that isn't outdated.

Unfortunate. Always used yahoo over google just out if habit. Although noticed lately the search dosent bring back as good results as google and I'm slowly engraining google as my default
|
No!!!!!!!!!!!! :Oh crap

Ever since they took away adult advertising from Yahoo Chat, Yahoo started going down to shit.
|
I think Google is going to be under the slice & dice monopoly knife shortly with all the BS they've been pulling lately. A lot of it is from the bean counters trying way too hard to push the $$$s up before the owners get out in a couple of years.
