Just out of curiosity, GFY was 10 years as it was and now some changes may be noticed. Do you like them?

GFY will now become just what Eric wants it to be, a "business only site". Is this a good thing? That depends... Do you want GFY to be a social site for webmasters or a strictly business site for webmasters? Eric has made your choice for you!

Theirs been changes? I haven noticed any, always seen GFY as the friendliest place on the net.

I dont think eric wants it to become just a business site but its main focus should still be business as that's what pays the bills. The ads are targeted to webmasters and program owners not surfers.

If the ad money dries up then the forum goes away

Not true at all. Fucking around is still very much apart of the site and is very welcomed. We are getting rid of the ridiculous attacks and non-sense that has gotten out of hand. But, everything is in the eye of the beholder.

The one thing I dont like is having to log in to view the fucking around threads but apart from that Its all good

I want GFY to be for people who are in this business. Not the wannabe's and surfers pretending to be and people who want to destroy our business.
I don't need a "social site" anyway. I have plenty of that in real life. What I need and want is GFY to be a place where I can find new business (which I do), bust balls with my peers (which I do) and not be bothered my motherfuckers who don't belong here (which has been the problem for a while)

GFY is full of people who don't even understand how a lot of this business works...but yet they slam, troll, and attack guys who DO know what they are doing. Nothing worse than seeing the countless threads full of anonymous dumbfucks with "cute" nicknames mob attacking guys who own programs/sites. I hope Eric puts an end to that bullshit once and for all.

I'd still like to see a real business section with ONLY people who Eric knows are in this business or can show him they are in this business allowed. Not viewable by anyone except those people. And as a requirement...a sig that is viewable in that section only with REAL name and business listed.

That would be a place to get some real business done without any of this "social site" bullshit. And then we could still all come over to the "Fucking Around" section and act like a bunch of highschool kids behind the keyboard.

Not really. He pretty much does know 90% of the people in this business that post on GFY. And vetting the other 10% would be a lot less work and stress than this place gives him anyway.

The amount of real people in this business isn't that big a number.

Much needed improvements, but there is still room for more.

i'm not knocking eric, and i am sure he knows a lot of people, but i seriously doubt he knows 10% of the people that need to be in that forum

basically that forum would end up being the main forum and this fucking around forum would house all the tards

Remember there are alot off affils in the biz who never post. Has to be. They benefit all sponsors and you don't want to alienate them.

I think sponsors and everyone got a big help with rule 4. Looks like relentlessly busting on someone day after day for no good reason isn't going to fly anyhow.

And there are those of us in the biz who don't have much of a social life :) who like to both f' off (in f'off threads) and do biz (in biz threads).

I don't think you can seperate into two boards, fuckoff and biz. I like it fine how it is. But I do agree with rule 4 esp. You can goof on someone whatever but riding someones back relentlessly should not be allowed.

Biz does trump f'ing around and f'ing around must take a back seat to biz.

Most of us go to other forums to do a lot of business where this kind of thing isn't tolerated and then we come to GFY for the entertainment of the "tards"

I'm sure Eric would like to be able to keep us all here as well for BOTH business and "tards".

I mean let's face facts...all of us have given out a ton of industry secrets on this board to people who don't have the background or understanding of things to process it correctly. We've had huge embarassing arguments on this board that made our industry look really, really bad.

Think about it...furniture stores do a 200% markup straight out. But you don't see a "Go Furniture Yourself" forum announcing that to the general public.

Car dealerships make the majority of their money on backend and product. But their is no forum like this one that tells the car buyer that they are buying thousands of dollars of unneccessary stuff everytime they buy a car. God knows if their was...their would be jackasses who have never sold a car making snide comments about: "Car dealership A makes all their money on the backend...NOT selling cars. They MUST be shady"
Now substitute "Car dealership A" with "Affiliate Program A" and substitute "backend" with "cross sale" and you see how we have basically opened up our business to people who have NO rights to know it.

Other industries wouldn't open up their business secrets to their very own customer base like we do right here on GFY.

I say move that talk to a protected section. Plus it would be even more fun to play the idiots out here that way. Oh the fake controversies and shitstorms we could orchestrate. :1orglaugh

But the most important thing would be to close our business back up. It's the smart thing to do. And in these economic times, and with rampant piracy...we need to stop being stupid and start acting like businessmen.

Most folks on here are salesmen. Everybody that signs up for an affiliate program IS a salesman.

You won't find salesmen from any other business explaining what and how they do things to their customers. Believe me, both of my brothers are in the car business. They are smart and know how to "work" their customers and drain every last penny they can. And they damn sure aren't going to go on a message board and tell how it works. It just isn't the smartest thing to do.

We need a place to talk freely without the general public there. We don't need big threads about Company A fucking over surfers. We need to keep that in-house and solve it without that kind of stupidity. You know the public sees that "Company A" as representing every damn one of us.

So if people need to be alerted about it to pull traffic links...let's do it without our customer base being privy to confidential info.

That's the way it is and has been working for years.trying to be exclusive will hurt,perhaps for the ballers who want to talk business only,I thought there was a separate invite only forum?
I like the more eyes ,the better approach.people need as much info as possible if they want to pursue adult as a income.surfers will get bored quick and leave also potential affiliates can still probe.I guess the numbers will talk eventually.

You make good points about it being open to the world.

But, there isn't much I can say technically that a 18 yo kid doesn't know. They prob know more than me.

The chance of surfers on gfy causing me probs are slim to none. They are mostly here because they are interested in the biz at least to some degree.

I know we all think we are god's gift to chat boards :) and the "surfer audience" is enthralled with our biz talk but I doubt it. Prob just folks slightly interested in the biz or whatever.

Yes there are a few rambuncious surfers but they have real rules now. :)

I realize many have larger profiles than me and run large paysites, businesses ect and so forth and I don't wan't to discount the public relations points you make but I guess if you don't want the public to know, you just have to keep quiet.

Afterall we are all surfers. For all you know maybe I work as a hidden reporter for a large news outfit. Who knows. Just cause it is behind doors won't mean "surfers" (a very generalized term) who want info won't be able to get it.

Your kind of wrong there. I have helped thousands of people over the years, some have made it, some haven't. There is no golden key to this biz. Hard work seems to pay off better. A lot get into this biz and think my bud makes a few grand a month, I can do this. In turn they want to learn. I teach them. Out of 1000 a year I may get 5 that get it. I have been in this industry going on 15 years. Anyone that asks me any question will get a truthfull answer, I get my jollies you could say from helping people get started in this biz. I have provided domains, server space, content, and all the goodies to get started. One of the biggest feelings to me, is helping someone and them saying "man I got my first sale, thanks" I have changed lives over the years. Its what I do, its what I enjoy. Working for the pond gave me that space I needed. Everyone knows I got paid peanuts, I have made more in an hour than I made with them in a month. Its not all about money with me. Its about helping someone. Everyone that knows me, knows that is what I am about, when you say no one gives away secrets, I am like an open book.

Here is where you run into a problem with a private board, and just coming from one that had private sections and private parties involved. You get a feel for what seems like a great bunch of people. Then something happens, may not even be in your control. A member comes in like a wolf in sheep's clothing, and starts with the private emails and the private pm's on how this is wrong it should be done this way. There is to much bullshit and not enough biz. He or she will fix that with there own private board, but its a secret little place that mods and admins no nothing about. This is all a secret, and if you want to part of the clan, you got to keep it a secret. It's one click of people gathering up other clicks. Gfy is not newbie friendly its not really a place for newbies to learn. I have watched at least 20 to 30 newbies plucked out of here in the last 8 months. Just about every newbie that hits this board is snatched away. I have watched boards over the years crash and burn because of this. Two large boards are all but tits up. This started where I was at about 3 months before the cash ran out, and it had nothing to do with people not being paid. It was two guys that started all of it with the last place I was at. I agree somethings should not be in the open. I also agree that you have to know who you are letting into the private area, and no one person becomes more powerful than the normal people that are there. The funny thing about that other board, the main people that helped them start it was banned within 5 months because they disagreed with the owner of the board and they didn't have the power to take the rest with them. I know that the people that run this board are trying to make it better. But when you own the most popular adult webmaster board on the net, why change it?
