Content Producers: You're On Notice.

Guess what? I've had some money & time to burn, so I bought a shit ton of camera gear..... have a friend in the biz..... and got nothing but time.

Please explain to me what makes you special, for clicking the button on your cam?

And I've seen the best & the worst.... I'm not gonna name names, but you guys are as far & between as good designers. Most of you are just assholes with a fucking camera.

Impress me with SOMETHING.

:2 cents:

Amputate Your Head 02-18-2010 05:47 PM

No content guys?

I'm stunned. You guys are always the first to jump on this shit.

JD 02-18-2010 05:48 PM

I really like the stuff JayRock puts out. It's some damn good shizzy imo

NaughtyRob 02-18-2010 05:51 PM

I'm not an asshole with a camera, I am a nice guy with a camera. :-p

xenigo 02-18-2010 05:53 PM

I agree with you there, AMP. Most guys who call themselves photographers here are nothing more than GWC's. Or "Guys With Cameras". That's actually entirely the reason I started shooting content in the first place, was because despite the fact that prior to 2001 I had never picked up a camera, I knew as a matter of fact I could absolutely murder the guys that were doing this for a living.

Amputate Your Head 02-18-2010 05:57 PM

Exactly Xen....

I'm guessing there are NO content guys willing to defend themselves on this.
Show me one pic I can't shoot myself with my fancy new shit I bought. Show me ONE.

Oh sure..... you could argue "contacts". That just a matter of time. :)

JustDaveXxx 02-18-2010 05:58 PM

Not worried. It took me a long time to get good and its not the gear, its how you use it and your "eye".

Just ask Dyna Mo he got to see the difference 1st hand.

I do wish you luck though. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.:thumbsup

amacontent 02-18-2010 06:02 PM

Im not gonna defend my self besides saying Ive done nothing better than anyone else but Ive been here as a content provider for 8 years. Ive traveled all over the world on numerous occasions. Ive shot no names to huge names. I live good and thats all the defense I need.

Composition in thirds... lighting from the North.. soft boxes... bouncing Flash.... post in PS.... (oh yeah, I'm a PS fuggin' Masta.)

Have I forgotten anything? Seems pretty easy to me.
(btw... been on this for a year. It's not out of the blue).

tical 02-18-2010 06:04 PM

Can you maintain wood?

amacontent 02-18-2010 06:05 PM

Oh yeah, good luck and feel free to ask for any advice. Shooting porn is one thing, selling it is another. Porn is like the stock market, some times something is hotter than something thing else....and you need to get in on it. Same with porn, you see a hot niche trend developing go with it

Jon Oso 02-18-2010 06:06 PM

I am definitely probably further towards the "worse" part of the spectrum if you've even seen any of my shit ... and as reletively new to the industry as I am I'm not really the best person to chime in on this BUUUUT.

In my limited experience, models are a pain in the ass, and all I'm shooting is solo girl content.

If I had even the slightest clue how to do any of this internet shit I would be much happier doing that as opposed to actually being "hands on" with models. If you can/want to deal with, by all means. But I'd rather just pay someone to do it.

Oooooooh...

Clicking a button is one thing... actually doing some work and selling it is another.
Hmmmmmm........ gosh. I'm out of my fucking league.

Ask Alienq how easy it is for a designer to break into the content biz.

I've been masturbating since LONG before then. Should I defend that? No. I don't claim to be a "Pro" at it.

Defend yourself or fall like the rest.

Not bad if your shooting a tree or one of your buddies.

Thats good, but working with models or multiple models is where it gets very difficult. Or if your shooting a complex niche things can get difficult if you miss something.

Mr Happy 02-18-2010 06:16 PM

Today, GFY has been very informative. I should buy some camera gear and start shooting.

Do you get PAID to masturbate? If so, you're a "Pro"....

The fact that I'm getting PAID for my content and you are NOT getting paid for YOUR content, means that I have nothing to prove....

YOU do.....So produce some content and prove yourself. It's 2010 so step it up.

CDSmith 02-18-2010 06:17 PM

Amp is about to get into the content production game?

The world as you all know it, is over.

I'm a fucking graphic designer dude. I think I can take a goddamned picture.

BTW: When you assholes fuck up? I'm the guy behind the affiliate program owners, telling them to tell you, to roust them out of bed, bandage up his cock, down some fucking coffee, bring them in AGAIN, and "Shoot It Again!" because you fucked up the first 5 times.

"Working With Models"? Really? How about getting the fucking RIGHT shot the 1st time?

This is my problem: YOU are supposed to be the fucking director on this shit. But I gotta spend MY fucking time FIXING this shit.

No more. Get it right, or I will.

Its equivalent to buying a chess game without know how the pieces move or play the game. But you can say you own the game and you can tell people you are good at it, but one day its gonna cost you a lot to find out that you made a serious mistake.

If you think your gonna compete, you will loose a lot of money on that learning curve and piss off clients, because the content is not what you said you were gonna deliver.:2 cents:

Not bashing, just speaking from experience.:2 cents:

Well, like I said.... this is directed at no one in particular. You guys do what you do. You are as individual as us designers. I have much respect for the ones that put some effort into it, same as designers.

It's the slackers... the ones that think they can just click a button and "get by"...... that I seem to end up dealing with all the time. After 10 years in this shit, believe me, I know which photogs I respect and which I don't. And even the ones I "respect" get called out at least once a month for fuckups.

I guess what I'm saying is, you "guys".... you... "Content Guys"... Photogs.... need to step back and re-evaluate yourselves. I can do what you do, RIGHT NOW. If I need to prove it, I will.

Step the fuck up, or fuck the fuck off.

The next shitty fucking pic / vid I am "forced" to work with.... that photog is going down hard.

LOL, i guess i would be pretty pissed off if i had to edit or fix other peoples work all day everyday. That would seriously suck ass. I hope you can do what you say you can do.

Wish you luck.:thumbsup

If that's true, then why do I exist?

I'm the last line before shit goes out to the world.
And I edit EVERYTHING. Pics.... vids... audio.... who do you think is producing these tours?

It's a reclusive nutcase like me. Bottom Line: the world sees what "I" and the other designers allow it to see. Out of 1000 pics you shoot, I might find 3 good ones worth using "up front".

"Nobody fixes my shit".... think again. I fix your shit. :pimp

You won't shoot a single piece of content. Guaranteed.

amacontent 02-18-2010 06:53 PM

Leave him alone Dave. Offer your help to someone who will apprecite it. Its obvious he failed as a designer so now hes trying the step before as a photographer. Probably next year he will be selling cameras to guys like us.

1. I already have.
2. It doesn't matter
3. I still control what gets seen and what doesn't.
4. You ratio is: 1000 Pics Shot : 1 Used.

Bottom Line: Fix your fucking quality, or I will fix it for you. I am fully capable of buying the gear, and doing what most of you do: Flexing a finger.

Take some fucking pride in what you do.

If your a designer and Distributors send you content...that is the fault of the clients for not buying content suitable to build tours, galleries, sites or any promo material.

Pay $200 for 200 sets of content what do you think you are buying?

Hi Noob. Welcome to the Interwebs.

As for design, I think I can show him a trick or two. :-P

No / Yes: That's my point. (that so many have overlooked)....

Point #1: I (we) have to deal with the SHIT I (we) am (are) sent. Example: " Make me (us) a bad ass tour... here's some vid-caps @ 320x240... I expect it to kick ass!"

Point #2: Someone is being contracted to do this shit before it hits my (our) desk. Some asshole out there is saying "Yeah, I'll do it for $200 bucks... TOTAL! That includes model fees!"....

Point #3: Stop it!

You wanna bag on the designers here for producing fucked up shitty tours.... take a good hard look at the content shooters supplying the shit. How fucking hard is it to take a bunch of pics? Especially today with high-end digital these days? There's no skill left involved that can't be gleaned from a book @ Borders.

Fault of the clients? Yes. I agree. They are the ones ultimately paying for the shit they buy. But as a photog, if you shoot better grade shit, you acquire better clients. It's a given. Unless of course your business model is to appeal to the lowest bidder.

Point #4: Why the fuck can't I buy a bunch of high-end camera gear and shoot pics of naked chicks just as easily?

The days of.... "Well,... I'm a "Mysterious Photographer" that knows shit you'll never know"..... are fucking over. We're not dealing with 35mm film and dark rooms any more here. Please...

this was the initial question...

SHOW ME WHY I NEED YOU AS A CONTENT PRODUCER!

quiet 02-18-2010 07:19 PM

this is the guy who shot all my exclusive content, over many years, that helped to make me a multi-millionaire: http://www.frankbongiorno.com/

epitome 02-18-2010 07:23 PM

The content guys all jumped on me when I said that self-shot stuff was becoming a bigger and bigger threat. My argument was that anyone can get a pretty good HD camera that makes HQ videos that look great on the web for $150.

They argued with me and I didn't have a comeback.

The other day I figured out the comeback...the success of Dare Dorm and Haze Him (both converting at better than 1:100 for me and many others) is proof that consumers don't care about perfect videos.

Models and fulfilled fantasies are what sell. While members may appreciate great video with awesome lighting, it is by no means a requirement of success.

I can't blame them for being upset with me. I'd get upset if people said my livelihood was threatened, too.

That's a great folio, and a nice Flash (template) site.... but other than "being in the right place @ the right time"... I'm not seeing how his camera & finger is any better than my own camera & finger.

Put me in those same situations, I'll take, 'as-good' or 'better than' pics. And of course, I can always make a better "Photog Flash Site".... with about 2 hours notice.

In fact.... based on his folio... I'm going to spend next week putting together a folio of my own. Of the last 20 years, 'Best Pics'.... I'll keep you updated.

For the record, I do have amazing respect for the real camera guys ... the guys that make it art.

I just don't have respect for the guys that put out stuff that ANYBODY could shoot and they act like they want a reward for doing a basic job correctly.
