Originality

(I've only been on here a week and I may get flamed for this but I'm curious about this..)

Is anyone out there doing doing anything truly original?

Reading through GFY, it seems most people are either doing gallery stuff pushing people to pay sites or AVS sites, running the pay / AVS sites or producing content.

Most of the actualy sites I see pretty much stick to a formula of pushing joe public towards the final goal of a pay site with photo/video content, and splitting the revenue with 20 other people along the way.

It's quite rare to see anything more than sites selling content. There seems to be very few truly interactive, fun and "sticky" sites.

I come from an ISP background and always found the communitcation part the most exciting aspect of being online. Looking at pictures is fun, but there's so much free content out there, doesn't the average 'customer' keep his credit card in his wallet and just download all the free stuff he/she can?

Where are the sites aimed at women? Where's all the mobile sites? Where's the excitement? Are things changing? Are current trends too driven by "webmasters" sat in their bedrooms submitting endless TGPs for a few bucks a month? Am I completely out of touch?

(Ok. You can flame me now.)

1. women's market is very small in adult
2. wireless.... will be bigger in the future. I'm sure sites are being developed for this. Issue would be quality of the receiver (phone).

In the end, if the largest $ maker is the object/site that will take money from the surfer being a paysite, livechat, dialer whatever :)

Good points - although I would have thought that the women's market could be seen as just another 'niche' - ie. small, but likely to convert well if done right.

Original... let's see...

How about www.StripKittens.com ...

There's nothing else like it, but that also causes a lot of webmasters to shy away from promoting us. I think it's just a little too different so they don't know how to promote it. The ones that do are happy to stray from the norm, and make money accordingly.

We sell to both women and men equally. Our president is a woman and she made sure that the software and accompanying web site would appeal to both groups. We also have a male version coming out soon but affiliates for that will be let in on a very limited basis, pretty much invite only.

Check our very active user forum to see what our customers have to say (http://www.ripenedpeach.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi). They love it, they're loyal, and they're waiting for whatever we do next. Can't get much better retention than that. :thumbsup

Oooh, I like. Can definitely do something with your kittens. :thumbsup

(Although I was kind of hoping for 3D dancing cats.. that would be cool too.)

The creative/interactive stuff takes a lot of work.. I would assume that most people are contented making above average amounts of money sitting in their bedrooms, posting galleries, submitting AVSs, etc.. and paysite owners are contented with good converting tours, and the same typical boring back end.. I've checked out lots of members areas, and they're all basically the same.. surfers only stay because they forget to cancel, typically speaking... in order to do something different, you have to go out and shoot your own content, have interactive stuff, hire girls, etc, etc.. just a lot of work! Most would probably rather make a bit less money for a lot less work, using the typical, unoriginal methods of making $.. that goes for paysite owners and sponsored webmaster as well.......... at least that's what I've gathered from the people I talk to.. even if they don't admit it outwardly.

We may qualify for original I guess .... http://www.cumkaraoke.com/guests.html . Most webmasters here are stuck on the idea that things that worked 3 years ago must still work now, however. The industry is in a shitty state , and the more webmasters that keep creating new ways to sneak a cc charge on someones bill as opposed to trying to improve the product being offered , the quicker more regulations will be put on the industry as a whole. Does trapping a surfer in a barrage of uncloseable popup ads make you X amount more cash per surfer? Sure. Does pissing people off enough to where they have to reboot their pc's make people wanna come back? No. 4 years ago you could get away with alot more shit and people were still willing to keep paying , those days are over.
